I was just listening to the Waterboys' 1988 Fisherman's Blues again.
What a pleasure.
Any other inspired suggestions?
I saw them at the Top Rank in Brighton years ago and they were brilliant live.
Babylon Zoo?
IGMC ๐
The sugar cubes
Penetration, and/or Pauline Murray and the Invisible Girls.
In a similar vein to the waterboys
the jackson 5
The Movies were a great 70s/early 80s band that nobody remembers. I discovered them by accident in a job lot of old records. Very cool. The ultimate forgotten band IMO.
i always thought 'six by seven' and '.....and you will know us by the trail of dead' were vastly underrated and never had the success they deserved. but in a way i was a bit pleased about that as they could stay 'our little secret' ๐
I was well into these back in 92
What happened to this lot? They were utterly jaw-dropping live
People in Planes. Great little band who I thoroughly ennjoyed watching live a few years back.
Saw these 3yrs ago, split now i believe.
Went to see Big Country many moons ago. They were ace live !
Ozric Tenticles..
I went to see them live when I was 18 with my then girlfriend's dad.. he got me so stoned on his homegrown weed that I stood in the corner of a little side bar at the back of the venue for most of the night.. more paranoid than a fat chicken at a fox conference..
Ironically until that night I had thought I was the most gangster-assed dope smoking fiend to stalk the face of the earth..
what a little tit..
Gomez, I loved Bring It On and Liquid Skin but you never hear them any more.

Smoking Popes
Big Country. Awesome band!
What about Stiltskin, eh? ๐
Scarce
Kick ass indie rock 3 piece from the early 90s with killer tunes who should have been massive, were it not for the double misfortune of having to tour with Hole, and the singer having a brain aneurysm. ..
Recently reformed. Still rock like bastards: -)
Boo Radleys- Giant Steps is a masterpiece.
The La's
Shop Assistants - saw them cover Ace of Spades in Brum in about 87 - brilliant looking and not bad music either
House of Love. Should have ruled the world but drugs and internal politics put paid to that
In the furries we trust ๐
Senser!
The Ozrics are now Eat Static. The play Endorset in Dorset festival every year. Bit more electronica than the Ozrics ever were but still nicely psycadelic and will get you dancing.
Sleep
Hundred Reasons... Both underrated and largely forgotten, but absolutely magnificent at their best.
Curve should have been massive.....got their sound nicked by garbage a few years later and they made the money
SFA ARE NOT UNDERRATED! NOR ARE THEY FORGOTTEN!
White socks, flip flops.....
and these chaps were brilliantly mental.... Always remember their last gig where they thanked the british music press for being behind them.....so far behind them, that they had only just discovered Mod ๐
the singer is now part of these loons
NWA's kids have formed a new band - Nippers With Attitude.
not my usual music but always unheard of or underrated imo LIVE

oh and whatever happend to bomb the bass, bassheads and pragha khan ๐
Can I add the following;
Utah Saints
Jesus Jones
808 State
Tesla
the utahs were ace they were good when they were called mdma before as well
Zodiac Mindwarp
I think there a few great bands that never hit the big time really, from the top of my head, The Coral and Violent Femmes, Pearl Jam, great band but never held in the reverence of someone like Nirvana
Planes Mistaken for Stars
Hitechjet
Murder by Death
Pearl Jam . The same Pearl Jam that have sold 60 million records? Still headlining music festivals worldwide? Last album went to number one in the states?
Big Country, still a great live band albeit with Mark Peters on vocals instead of the late Stuart Adamson
Celebrating 30 years since The Crossing was released with a tour next February where they will play that great album in its entirety
Ozrics and Godflesh-saw both when I was 16.
Eat Static 'abduction' and 'implant' worth a listen on a colourful night in.
Mudhoney-so much better than Nirvana.....
Kill II This
I've had the misfortune to have seen Zodiac Mindwarp and Stiltskin and they were the worst gigs I've ever been to.
The Hamsters, on the other hand... Budgie were good, too.
