    Do you need surf?

Do crowds count for or against?

I think i’m good on English and Welsh beaches but need to know what you are after

been to sandyhills, stayed in a caravan and it was very nice.
been to northumberland 4 or 5 times and it is very nice but a bit too quiet and the sea is too cold.

Having done many many beaches over the years in the UK with the kids I went up to Glencoe last year and had a drive over to the beaches on the west coast on the way up to Mallaig-yes sea was a bit colder but crystal clear and sand was fine silver and the view stunning and the air so pure. Hands down winner for me and there is also of course Fort William etc etc etc.

Newgale, Whitesands in Pembrokeshire. If it’s sunny, simply stunning. Pembrokeshire isn’t much hyped a) because it’s Wales b) it’s the far end of Wales from England and hardly anyone gets that far…
    Pembrokeshire beaches

Can I also recommend Nanjizel in Cornwall? Again if it’s sunny it’s stunning. Proper Famous Five territory with rock pools to jump in and a cave to explore.Cornwall

    Woolacombe is just great.
Southerndown, Wick, Nash in South Wales are fantastic if you know the area well.

I was surprised at how nice the beach at Bridlington was last week.

I’ve always been a big fan of Anglesey though. Loads of beaches there, all within a few miles of each other.

Totally in agreement about Pembrokeshire, but don’t ignore a handful of very good beaches up Cardigan Bay, I really like Tresaith and Llangranog, brilliant little beaches.

    Isles of Scilly

You can have your own beach or even your own island on a quiet day.

Its like the Caribbean but with pasties and proper beer 🙂

    Bournemouth / Christchurch.
Go Christchurch if you want quiet beaches and nice scenery, Bournemouth end if you want it busier and more going on.
Burton Bradstock is my favourite though.

Cornwall I reckon. Proper golden sand in some places, clear blue water, and warmer than the rest of the country.

I’d go for Newgale and White Sands in Pembrokeshire

Never that crowded, really beautiful. Loads to do in the area but no arcades or in your face tourism. I like St Davids good for a coffee or meal. Rib trips area popular activity. Depending on when your going the Islands are great for birds like Puffins and Gannets even if you don’t normally go in for birds

    Only 2 possible catches

no real mountain biking near by, but I assume thats not an issue at the moment.

Newgale in particular is quite tidal, with the high tide line covering all the sand

Cornwall has loads of great beaches but in general the summer crowds put them behind Pembroke unless you want more reliable surf

in Cornwall I’d go for Gwithian as that never seems that crowded

Have to say I’m less good on Scottish beaches

But I’m putting Pembrokeshire above the LLyn, North Wales, mid wales, Devon, North Yorkshire and Northumberland

    Runs for the exit

    Oh, my aching sides!

If you want (relatively) quiet beaches in Cornwall, SE is best. Whitsand Bay is beautiful. Can be tricky to access though as you need to hike down some cliff paths. Also close to Dartmoor.

I’ve been a regular visitor to Pembrokeshire for holidays over the las 5 years or so and the beaches are outstanding. My favouriteis Barafundle Bay

As a beach resort/town I think Tenby is brilliant and always enjoy a holiday there.

But if I just want to go to a beach then Mwnt is great, although it is getting more popular these days so less appealing. I’ve spent hours sitting on the head watching the dolphins playing.

The best by far is Sandwood Bay in the Highlands………On a sunny warm day…..

But off to Northumberland in 2 weeks for a week.
I just need to hide the Salsa Mukluk in the boot before we start packing.
