Could’ve sworn we had a thread on this already but I can’t find it. Anyway.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/entertainment-arts-29239681

    Confirmed for the DM remake:

    Alexander “Pointless” Armstrong as Dangermouse.

    Kevin Eldon as Penfold.

    Dave Lamb as the narrator.

I have a good feeling about this.

Please don’t let DM become some kind of muscle-bound arcade game character. Roobarb and Custard didn’t sell out, Danger Mouse, you don’t need to either.

Of course they will. But I can’t see either of them reprising their roles any time soon, albeit for very different reasons.

Did John Squire work on Danger Mouse, or did the 90’s do something to my brain?

Interesting fact. One of the reasons that is was so good first time round, was that David Jason and Terry Scott were desperately trying to ‘out do’ each other in the voice booth. It was all very good natured apparently, but as two actors who were very proud of their work, they didn’t want to let the other one win, so to speak. Happens all the time with actors, you can have the other guy stealing the limelight now, can you ?

Well, that’s almost certainly wrong, because he wasn’t an animator. He made models.

    I think, anyway.

    Here, from the horse’s mouth.

Who was the hardest to draw when you worked at Cosgrove Hall [the animation company famous for children’s programmes in the late ’80s and early 90’s]. Dangermouse or Penfold?
    Mark Thompson, Lancashire

I didn’t draw any charactors, actually. I was involved in making things for Wind In The Willows and even then I was only making props like miniature plates and chairs. That was the first job I ever had, apart from Tesco.

I remember having a tour of Cosgrove Hall studios as a kid as a neighbour was an animator there. Was fantastic, the models were amazing. Quite excited about new danger mouse.

David Jason is very much alive… or he was last time I checked the cage that I keep him in under the shed.

    And… it’s here.

Just watched it, exceeded all my expectations for a modern reboot. Laugh-out-loud funny in places and ticked all the homage boxes. If I was nit-picking I’m not convinced about Penfold, but the rest was on the money.

    What do other readers think?

The missus spotted it this evening, so I’ve set the PVR to record from tomorrow onwards. Liked the look of the visuals on the trailer. Looking forward to introducing monkey jnr to Baker Street’s finest superhero upon his return from school.

The kids were keen to watch it after I showed them the old version on Netflix. I thought it was ok except for the fact that he’s no longer mouse sized.
    Disappointed.

Not seen it yet, will catch-up in a week when I get home.

Alexander Armstrong, talking about his role on the radio, described it as ‘The closest I’ll ever get to playing Bond’ I’d say this far outstrips being 007.

I think they’ve done a good job, AA is a good DM and the cheeky tone remains. Now have it series linked 🙂
