check with cotic, my understanding was there was some thought about putting rack mounts onto the x although ti did not hapen last time. I have just ordered a salsa rack lock seat clamp for £20 sorts that job out. Frame is lovely to ride.

Apologies for the advertising but...

My 2p: the Kaff is the best value frame out there and rides really well.
You will not regret discs - sure you don's need them but that's been said about them on mtbs...and about indexed gears, sti, clipless pedals...
To my knowledge, those saying "you don't need discs" haven't tried them on road. And I've NEVER heard of anyone trying them and going back.

In fact, I think we may have a winner... Ticks all the boxes I think, unless anyone has any suggestions to the contrary?

Mudguards and rear entry wheel removal trickier, otherwise the frame is a Kaff.

Excellent. Perfect. I figure it'll be a pain for punctures, but some decent tyres should minimise that. And once I have the 'guards on it should be fine. I also reckon the lower tyre clearance shouldn't be TOO much of a problem, as I'm mostly likely to be offroad in summer, thus not needing mudguards. Plus I have an MTB for proper mudplugging!

I think what Al is saying is that if you have a rear wheel puncture on a mudguard-equipped bike with track dropouts, you need to remove the mudguard in order to slide the wheel out. That's what a mate found with his Genesis Day One, at any rate. You could fit band-on guards like Race Blades instead:
I'm mostly likely to be offroad in summer, thus not needing mudguards.
Ah, not a UK resident then?
In fairness, I wouldn't want to ride "proper" off road on a mudguard-equipped bike because of the potential for damage to them, increased toe overlap and so on.

Ah I see! This mudguard skinny tyre drop bar malarkey is all new to me.

Wasn't the Kaffenback always aimed at the middleground, not a light road bike, not a touring bike, just a bike to ride while the nice one lives indoors over the winter.
Yep, but with swopouts seemingly established, maybe it would be better to differentiate the Pomp & the Kaff:
One bike as more of a Tourer (slack, low BB, long chainstays, higher head tube), one lighter, faster bike for everything else.
Makes sense
