It’s been a while, but I’ve got an update on this and I’m pleased to say it’s a happy ending. Eurodave – the owner of the bike in question would like to get in touch if possible so if you can supply some form of contact that would be great?
So the bike on Gumtree was indeed the missing bike. The police were initially unable to respond in time so owner and a mate arranged to see the bike posing as prospective buyers. They were given the runaround and when they evetually got hold of the guy he told them it had been sold so no longer available. So potentially the end of the trail…..
The matter was pursued with the police, and the guy invovled in selling the bike/bikes on Gumtree was picked up by the police but unfortunately no sign of the bike. So another dead end…Until….This week the bike appeared on Ebay, now in Luton. So the owner informed the police and proceeded to bid on it in order to win it at which point hopefully the police would be able to ‘pick it up’ on his behalf. I’m pleased to say that today that’s exactly what happened! and bike and owner were re-united, amazingly.
One important detail was that by chance the owner had pics of the frame number so they could positively identify the bike as his, without this he might have struggled. A lesson to us all I reckon! It also seems that the bloke who ended up with it bought it innocently on Gumtree and is now out of pocket to the tune of £900 and also £300 for a fork service he paid for.
Anyway, a great story and testament to the power of forums like this.
