I have a 140K Berlingo and one day it’s going to die. Always fancied a 3up front seater van. However some research indicates Dispach is over the 2T load category and limited to 60 on dual carriages. I also never realised that my car insurance would need to start afresh with “van” type.I am confused, help.

Any Van that doesn’t share the exact same bodyshell as the car it’s based on will have the Van speed limits.

The Fiesta van has car speed limits as it is the same body, just the rear side windows blocked out. Something like a Transit Courier or Connect, even being roughly the same size as the Fiesta will have the lower limits.

Doesn’t matter about weight. All a bit silly if you ask me.

Is the Berlingo the one with the side windows ?

Dispatch is very much a van and only a van isnt it. ie no car version.

Yeah, but even if there is a car version, it has to be the exact same body to have car limits.

The old Escort van had the Escort front but, as the back was different, it had the lower limits. Same with the old Vauxhall Combo, Corsa front, big back end….

Dispatch, so there’s no car version like, say Citroen Synergie, Pug 806, fiat ulysse.. 😉

Used to be called car derived vans – it’d say that on the log book.

Same front, different shell just like the old Escorts

Guessing the Dispatch will have barn doors and the car above a tailgate ?

My NCB carried forward from car to motorhome to van. Just shop around. No way around the lower speed limits.

do what i and the majority of van drivers do and ignore the lower limits(unless theres a police car behind you). no way am i trundling down an A road at 50 when i could safely be doing 60/70. same goes for 60 on a dual carrigeway.

If you are looking at the model they have just replaced this is all not worth thinking about- we have had two at work and, having driven pretty much all vans available, aside from the LDV Maxxus I can’t think of any that are worse.

It’s a shame, because the Berlingo is so good but I can’t see on the Despatch how they could have thought through anything less. It’s also a very noisy and unrefined place to be, even for a van.

Ncb was carried over when I got my first van , and I ignore the lower limits both with my current dispatch ( old shape as above ) and with the long high Renault master I had before and yet to get done for speeding. Just lucky maybe as both should be driven to the lower limits. But then so should most t5 vans

I’ve got a 2008 scudo combi ( with windows all around, barn doors), speed limits are same as my car, it’s on my sun visor along with height and width reminders, dunno if it’s cos it’s got windows though. It had been converted from a stock empty shell to have 4 removable rear seats by a Midlands youth offenders unit.

I’m not totaly sure but think the speed limit thing is related to revenue class. Ive only ever had panel vans

I normally just ignore the lower limit and the actual limit. Seems like the way forward.

Yup, vans and E7 taxis are same floorpan and front panels upto the rear of the sliding side doors, a higher roof and barn doors, cars are tailgated
