Smees trying to covert me to skins compression wear – how does it differ to my underarmour "cool" wear ? seems thicker but since i dont seem to be able to get my hands on it (local shops all sold out – which in its self may speaks volumes or indicate good product placement in mags, but doesnt help me !

Have you used it and noted better recovery from long rides/hard sessions ??

Im intregued(and have been for some time) but im not yet convinced !

I use Skins bibshorts and the Powersleeves things. 24 hour solo races used to totally screw up my triceps but I've been fine since I got some. Likewise my glutes/thighs have been better since getting the shorts.

Good job cos the shorts cost a bloody fortune.

IMO the recovery tights are very good – notice a difference when I use them. Not so sure about the compression socks – used them but haven't noticed any difference. Friend uses compression tights for running and thinks they're great – doesn't have the same tiredness in the legs the day after a hard run.

Edit – thinking about it the socks might not work very well as I don't think the sizing is very good and seem too loose but the smaller size was too tight. Recovery tights fit much better.

i am a believer, use tights for recover after a hard ride.

Only noticed it making a difference in the majorly used muscles, Quads, hanstrings and glutes.

Conpression socks never made much difference for me as they arent really used much when riding.

I use 2XU tights, well made and seem to work

interesting – thats similar to what im looking at jase

so you guys just ride in them , you dont use them after for recovery – ventured over onto MTBR and folk there are sleeping in them – that might be a bit too much for my girlfriend 😉

do you have shorts with pads or do you wear them over your regular shorts jase – was hoping to use them running as well – bit expensive to buy a pair for riding and a pair for running. Might just go for the cycling stuff just now !

I'm looking at this stuff for a friend. She is recovering from breast cancer and has had some lymph nodes removed, which apparently puts her at risk of lymphatic edema. Will one of these compression tops help to drain fluids or am i barking up the wrong tree?

the fact you bought some compression kit out of aldi for about a 10er and its not very good …

i saw that – picked it up in aldi and went – that will work as well as cutting arm and head holes in a bin bag !

aldi stuff is sized shit ! i have some cheapy windproof bib longs from there for commuting – i refuse to use anything expensive on the grounds it gets treated like shit. They are 2 inches too short , too tight on the quads and room for 3 of me in the stomach area ! – and they are XL ! – designed for short fat folk me thinks !

Still having trouble getting them? IIRC John Lewis in Cheadle (Manchester) had a rack full at the weekend. Others may stock them too, and not being a specialist sports shop, might not flog them so quick.

I have no problem with the price but wasn't sure how it would feel on as I know they are worn tight .My 10 year old has a Nike one for football and it's tiny but stretches loads and he reckons it's great

got some adidas running ights which do the same job i'm guessing, and were only 14 squid at JJB.

Also have 3 sets of O'neill skins tops which i got for between a fiver and 15 quid in the sale.

Will start using running tights mroe often and see if they make a difference

Just bought some and used them for footy training on wed. Kept them on for 2 hours after and my legs felt noticably fresher the day after. I have the normal compression ones but plan to mainly use them for recovery and the odd training/running session. Didnt get the recovery ones as they have feet which I wasn;t sure about.

Worth the money imo. Use the sizing chart on the skins website – they're meant to be tight.

I've been using the socks for running for a while now as had problems with my Calf seizing up & had no problems since, maybe a placebo affect, but something I'm willing to live with even if that is the case.
Hoping to get some cycling shorts this year, if I can ever afford them!

I find that a proper stretch after hard work out, ie, a warm down does wonders for my muscles the next day. I suppose the idea of compression wear is that you don't have to do as much warm down as they squeeze all the excess lactate out.

sounds like total twaddle to me!

I listened to a Talk from Dr Kevin Reichlin who was the physiologist with Garmin-slipstream. He talked for about half an hour on the benefit/disadvantages of compression wear and the key points were:

    1. They provide a measureable and significant increase in veinous return after lactic inducing exercise, but are not a replacement for warming down and stretching, just a supplement.

2.Fit is crucial: as tight as you can possibly squeeze yourself into

    3. they are useless after about a month becuase they will have stretched, thus negating thier function entirely

    4. If you have $10,000 to spend, buy some space legs

couldn't you just buy some DVT stockings for a fraction on the price?

My DVT stockings cost a bleeding fortune. £50 for knee length ones. Even about £15 on prescription

They've got a new range coming out, C400 cycle.

I used to wear the normal type under my cycling shorts. But I've since bought the proper cycling (padded) ones and they’re much much more comfortable.

I like them coz they help keep my cramp at bay.

The normal type is bloody great for recovery.

Don't wiggle sell a similar type but cheaper?

Total shite; I've been using mine since August 2008 and they haven't stretched.

They don't work for everyone. I had a pair of the tights not long after they came out for fell running. They had the opposite effect and caused my legs to fatigue quicker, hills I could normally run up with no problems became very painful and very long. Did some research on it and found that for a small percentage of people they can have the opposite effect. Quick way to lose £60 🙁
