After riding my 1991 Alpinestars for the first time in 16 years yesterday, and thoroughly enjoying it, i want to get something similar but more reliable (snapped stem anyone?). Will be running gears still, as fitness is not up to ss.

WTF would you run a singlespeed fixed mountain bike, that is just a ploy to say "look at me i am different for the hell of it!!"

ROLF - just a bit of variety. I have a geared full suss bike too. I have a freewheel SS wheel I can slot in when I want.
Sometimes people just do stuff for fun.

not stopping pedaling = fun????

Moots Rigormootis SS with Black Sheep forks.

Trying to get the riding smooth enough to avoid pedal strikes. Spinning smoothly. slowing through the pedals.
Different and fun from time to time. Definitely not the way to ride all the time but fun for a change, try it

stevek that is beyond nice.Posted 2 years ago # -
That Moots is lovely

WCA, how often do you get pedal strikes?
What length crank arms are you using?
(yep, that Moots is sweet)

Feeling a tab beaten up after 4 hours on it yesterday, still my fave bike of the three I own

I have only been out a few times fixed so am still getting used to it. Loads of strikes on the first run until I stopped leaning so far into the corners and stopped cutting too close to the stumps that mark some corners.
Last ride was about an hour and only a couple of strikes and neither serious.

its got a different fork and rear wheel on it at the mo' but it's still rigid (and fast)

nonk - photos of alpinestars on retrobike forum Purbecks ride thread. Anyone got an inch and a quarter 120mm Quill stem to replace the one that nearly killed me yesterday?
Thinking of ditching the 456 and just running a rigid bike, if my knackered wrist can put up with it.
