Off to Italy at the end of May and have 2 nights in Rome. Looking for basic and clean accommodation to rest our heads, and ideally under £75 a night.

Seen a few hotels and guest houses on Late Rooms and the like, just wondering if anyone had any other experience/tips?

If you’re open minded and respectful, you will have a fantastic experience, and remember it longer than any hotel.

Fawlty Towers! Me and the missus loved it when we went for a week.

Thanks midlife, never thought of that!

schmiken – looks cheaper, but still expensive for a hostel. Was it nice?

It was quite nice. Quite hostelly, but if you book in advance you’ll get a nicer room.

Nice. We got flights for £200 all in (taxes, fees and a check-in bag) Glasgow-Rome.

My folks stayed in one when on a parish visit years ago to see the Pope and have a look round, said it was just what they were after, basic, calm and relaxing after hitting the sights all day.

the prices vary wildly depending on your dates. breakfast was so so, but you wont go hungry in Rome.

I’ve been a few times over the years but the only ones I remember are, hotel Bolivar, hotel Fontana di Trevi and hotel Eden. The Eden is a lot of cash but the other two were nice and quite cheap, I stayed at the fontana di Trevi on my wedding night.

we stayed at ‘The Baileys Hotel’ in Rome, nicely placed to walk to most places and just on bus route, round corner from rail station. speak english, very helpful, good restuarant up the road – avoid centre restaurants – rip off

Thanks all. We ended up getting a good deal in Last Minute – a £150/night room down to £80 right near the station.

You don’t get much for less than £90 a night in Rome!
