The Macphee girls making their way the length of the Western Isles. A great trip that everyone should consider doing at least once.

BBC Alba this time, but you’ll catch it on iPlayer too

I’ve done the trip, though not all by bike, and I didn’t make use of any ferries 😉

Is it like The Bridge or something? It appears that I have to read it.

Just watched this and really enjoyed it- we did it this year and it was one of the best holidays I’ve ever had. My wife would disagree but we did it in blazing sunshine and I’m tempted to make her watch this so she can see how uncomfortable it could have been!

We stayed in the same hostel as them on Berneray- the highlight of our trip, it’s out of the way if you’re cycling it but I can’t recommend the place enough.

That was a nice gentle programming to finish off the weekend. What a nice lyrical sound, the language has.
Reminds me that I need to get my plans in order, for our trip to Arran/Islay/Jurra, in August.

I particularly liked the comment from one of their friends…

“I’ve made this journey hundreds of times, but it was only when I cycled it, that I noticed things” (or words to that effect)

This one of the things that keeps me riding my bike.

Riding in Harris, so I suspect they might do the Reinigeadal loop.

Enjoyed watching episode 2, last night – really makes me want to get out on my bike.
That zig zag descent looked interesting.

Did the Ren loop both ways, great wee ride, best done clockwise IMO – ie up the zigzags.

    I’ll catch up tonight.

Cheers OP, watched episodes 1 and 2 this morning while my missus was snoring in bed.

Really made me want to book a trip to Harris… Hmmm.

Did that Clisham loop from Ep2 with the OH after a dry spring. A ‘T’ shirt ride. Recommended XC loop!!

Thanks for the heads up on this. Need to go back for more…

    …cheers. Paul

I watched both episodes last night and enjoyed them. The language thing does feel a little forced though, more than a couple of times when people were speaking they were struggling to find the words, (in gaelic) it seemed to me. (there was one auld fella on a bike who could only say yes) It’s very telling that when the girls fall off or speak without thinking then they revert to english. So why film it in gaelic? yes I know it’s a gaelic channel but why should the programming on there be exclusively in gaelic if the comments would be more illuminating in English.

Because it’s paid for out of a budget put aside to promote the use of Gaelic?

oh I see mr roots, then we should be thankful I suppose as otherwise the programme wouldn’t exist. 🙂 as you were.

I found the Gaelic less annoying than the awful inner city drawl that’s becoming more and more common (every pun intended) -innit, like, obviously?

Part 3 on BBC Alba in an hour.

    the awful inner city drawl

That’s how we roll in Dunblane, in da hood.

@matt_outandabout – 🙂 , but I’d class Dunblane residents as having a quaint regional accent, but the urban thing is just laziness (or dillusions of being ‘gangsta’)

Ep 1 – a bit boring too much road.

Ep 2 – better Harris looks well worth a visit.
