From Rutland Cycling here, apparently they've bought up the rest of the UK stock and are the only place likely to put them on offer.

Ordered myself a shiny new 2011 ASR-5 for £1249!

Will they get the full yeti warranty? don't fancy falling foul of the same issues that CRC had with their cut price yeti frames.

Same dilemma here with the asr5-c. Almost giving them away at that price!

I've emailed Yeti to find out if they will support the warranty.

Hopefully they'll say no, and then I won't buy one. (sorry chojin)

Alfabus - I'd love to know the outcome!! I've bought one regardless 🙂

Only because I managed to wangle 0% finance with it too! (by paying the fee they're normally charged)

...although shame no medium black anodised ASR-5 left

Anyone know if you can specify 12mm x 142mm thru axle dropouts over 135mm QR?

The above post is correct. These frames were proper UK imports with Evolution. As Silverfish are taking on distribution they are happy to honor the standard Yeti warranties.

The warranty would have been a useful excuse for me to avoid buying one.

My main problem is that I've got a 575 (old shape), and an ASR 5 doesn't seem 'different enough'.

My 575 is built quite burly; so maybe I should lighten it up to make it more XC usable... then I could get something bigger and cheaper for bigger UK stuff and the alps.

Hmm..

Dave

Your right grum about them not being that cheap considering I bought mine at the start of the year for £1300 and that was the 2011 frame so would expect a little more discount as you would be looking at the 2012 frames this time of year. Something around £1000 would be more like it.

What are the differences in the 2011 and 2012 frames?

so as a tapered headset noob, would I need to buy tapered steerer forks or is there a magical adapter available use use standard 1 1/8?

druidh... the only changes I have spotted are colours. also not sure if the 2011 had a dropper post guide, which the 2012 appears to.

bigjim... you can use a step down crown race, or a special lower headset cup.

oh for god's sake can the mods please remove this thread - it has runied my day. I had just about talked myself out of this as I would have needed a tapered fork!

bigjim in the same boat as you. There are tapered headsets to fit which you then fit an adapter as the crown which allows 1 1/8 forks to be used. Hope do them in their "pick and mix" range

Oh no, I was hoping the prospect of having to buy new forks would stop the temptation... hopefully there aren't any frame sizes suitable for someone just under 6'5"...

I was in the same boat with the tapered headset/1 1/8 steerer, but rutland are fitting a mix n' match Hope headset for me which will allow me to use my standard 1 1/8 forks.

Rather annoyingly, everything else should just swap straight over from my old frame... just when i was looking for an excuse not to buy!

If anyone is really not buying one because they have 1.125" forks and these frames have a taper headtube, I have a Hope lower cup and race that will fit the bill nicely. Only £15 too.

There you go, no reason not to buy one now.

Oh dear. I really want an ASR5 now. I have been saying to myself I'm not getting any younger and I might as well get my dream bike whilst I can still enjoy it properly. I really wanted to get it from the Bike Chain in Edinburgh if I did though.... cash v conscience....

The Bike Chain are great too, especially if you could find a discount code somewhere...

Does anyone know if the claimed 5.5lbs for the ASR5 alloy is with a shock or not? Probably a medium one as well im thinking?

Spending that much on some bent tubes and compressed air it is comforting to have a local shop to take it back to if said tubes and air malfunction though!

Just got an email back from yeti:

Hi Dave,

Those bikes are part of an authorized closeout through Rutland and will be covered under warranty. Keep on riding and enjoying your Yeti’s!

-Nate

Nate Espinosa: Warranty/Service
p.303.278.6909x1024
f.303.278.6906
Yeti Cycles: HandBuilt RaceBred
600 Corporate Circle, Unit D
Golden, CO 80401

Dave

ps. Not to doubt the blokey from rutland cycles, but I doubt CRC would have volunteered that their moody Russian frames were not supported by the manufacturer last time this issue came up. Nice to get it from the horse's mouth.

If anyone wants me to forward them the email, I'm happy to do so. Email in profile.

edit: Please direct any pedantry regarding Nate's apostrophe usage to warranty@yeticycles.com 🙂

+1. A couple of years ago we'd be aghast at folk thinking a 1200-1200 frame is going at a bargain..

I bought a 575 that had been reduced 4 years ago for £700 from Wheelbase
so what's that 70% dearer this time around?

I know but Missy Giove must have made a big impression on me when I was young and impressionable... I wouldn't think of spending so much on another brand of frame, weird hey?

Evolution had the 2009 ASR7 for something like 799 for an age, very nearly bought one (completed half the form) until I stumbled across an even better deal on a different frame.

WTF 😯

If you are that mad you could have the front triangle sprayed up professionally and restickered. Who thought a different paint job was worth 2.8k?

Cool. Depends on what the cable routing is like on them. If there's the usual long exposed cable runs then the standard should be fine. Funny though I measured mine out for gore cables only this morning 🙂

can anyone tell me what headset parts i'm going to need to install forks with a standard 1 1/8th steerer to one of these frames ?
I'm going to go the hope pick and mix route but on the CRC site they list a 'Hope Tapered 1.5" Reducer Crown' . will i need one of these as well as the cups ??

This surely means Yeti's are even more common that usual now.

A Bit large the Clarkson BMW/Mondeo ST muse, it might be better to buy a Trek EX8 to have a more exlusive bike 😉

If you're going with the Hope Pick N Mix (...and frankly there aren't too many other options particularly cheaper) you need top 2, bottom E and a HS136 reducer if running non-tapered 1 1/8th steerer forks
