[#3875840]

Was idly looking at the POC kit on CRC the other day and wondered if the eye-watering prices - £199 for an open-face helmet, £435 for a ff 😯 & £150 goggles - were actually justified 😕

Anybody got anything POC?

TLD D3 is more expensive...

The whole MIPS thing is supposed to be very good in the helmets. I can't get round the looks of it though. It looks like a big, white marshmallow.

I have a couple of POC things, the full armour, and the VPD knee pads. I seem to recall the early armour had some quality issues, but mine has been good. By far the most comfy 'jacket' I have worn. The knee pads are a lot better than the 661 KS's they replaced too.

However, I bought both mine in a heavily discounted sale. Don't think I would pay retail for them.

My only gripe with the armour is, why on earth is it white?

Well that teach you to go on CRC. LBS will have them mucho cheaper.
135€ for the helmet, and 57€ for the glasses.

Why anyone would ever pay that much for an essentially disposable item that makes you look like a grade A twunt is beyond me.

had two sets of gloves, knee pads and a helmet.

Helmet wasnt great but everything else is spot on.

Pricing isnt that bad compared to some.

Some satisfied customers as expected but is it actually any better than 661/Giro/Oakley etc

Not trolling I just wondered if POC kit is worth the premium 😕

well the leg armour is better (designed) than the fox and 661 stuff ive owned previously
for example the knee articulation is less restrictive, more secure and offers better protection that either

I have a fair bit and it's all good quality. The gloves are the most comfy I have had and they've lasted well considering I have destroyed gloves by royal, endura and 661. The VPD knees are excellent, they stay up and I'm happy to wear them all day. The VPD jacket is very comfy and does what it says on the box. I don't have a helmet though, I like my fox lid and urge FF.

The helmets are beautifully made, although they come up quite small on size so i can't get my watermelon-head into one! I have the knee/shin pads and they are fantastic. Very comfy due to the articulated knee and sometimes I wear them all day. They also have stayed in place during a couple of big crashes I had last year.

Elbow pads are a good fit, but you cant put them in the wash. Thats not too bad for elbow pads, but Knee pads get very dirty so Ive not bought POC knee pads, I use 661 for the knee.

The helmet does seem very expensive for what it is. A lot of marketing for an open face helmet with small ventilation. Not worth it, get a cheap one, they are made of the same stuff.

The majority of bike lids are basically just polystyrene with a bit of paint/plastic on the outside.

The trabec (race version) is no different except for one thing: they added a layer of Aramid fibers over the polystyrene. That´s the same stuff used to make bullet-proof armour. Makes the lid stronger and is supposed to stand up to more impacts. It´s probaby not cheap stuff.

Marketing guff? Dunno, I fell for it and bought one after trying it in the lbs.
Fits great, makes me look like a mushroom and i could care less.
