  • Please HELP!! Where can I find 160-165mm mtb cranks ??????

I am building a frame up for my son and want to get him short cranks as this will be better for his knees. I have had a WTD post a while ago on the classifieds with zero response. Tried many searches online. Except for XTR ones (obviously way too expensive) and jump style ones (need a triple as he will be racing XC) I can't find ANY. If anyone out there can help or point me in the right direction I will be very grateful.

Theres a Welsh engineering firm specialising in bike bits which I'm sure would be able to help…can't remember their name at the mo!

Middleburn, TA, Cut down and re-drilled try Highpath Engineering. It' possible that I have some 165's lying about.

Thanks everyone, will have a look at the mentioned options.
Bob, the cranks need to be a triple as my son does XC racing. The FSA Gravity is a double with bashgaurd. Maybe one can remove bash and replace with outer ring? Still dont want his bike to be heavy so a downhill type crank not the first choice.

Yeah you should be able to remove the bashguard and stick a ring on. I'm sure they come in at 950g so they're not too heavy.

If he's sufficiently young that you're after really short cranks he shouldn't really be pushing a 44t ring anyway, that'll do more damage than the crank length! A 32t would be adequate for most XC races frankly, unless he's a junior, when he'll likely be fine with 170s!

My son is 9(turns 10 next July and will be racing U/12 next year) and his inside leg is 67cm. Just worked out with a crank lenght calculator that he should use 148mm cranks.
Crikey, trust me I have searched mate. There are lots about but they are either downhill cranks or road cranks or too expensive. Intended use is XC riding and racing.
Also, he is growing at an astonishing rate and will outgrow whatever I buy within a year and then I will be buying longer ones again so I dont want to spend too much.
njee20, so if get him 170mm cranks and encourage him to just use the middle (and inner) ring then it would be ok?
simonk, I might be interested in the RS3'S. Send me an email(it in my profile) if you have a price in mind.
