Just a little thought to possibly help me keep the van it Basically needs £1500 to £2000 spending on it to get it back to tip top condition some major welding underneath!
Was considering offering a part share in the van reckon its got a value of 8K with all the work done
So you get a quarter share in the van and in the event of selling the van you get a quarter of the value or resale back obviously needs the person to be based in the South Lakes are

The van is Tax exempt so no problems

So was looking @ keeping it parked @ my house.

That sounds like potential for a huge fallout at some point in the future... Accident damage, unforeseen mechanical issues, one party wanting to sell and not the other.

Can you not get a short term loan to cover the repairs? I think I would prefer to hire it out through a company with comprehensive insurance rather than attempt an informal share with someone who is likely to become a friend, and then go through a potentially messy 'divorce'.

Might be waaay off here, but if it needs to wash its face, why not look into using it as a wedding vehicle? Sounds crazy but folk are already doing it and charging a small fortune. A very quick Google gives a huge list of results;

There'd be a bit to consider, like business use on the insurance, and having indemnity business insurance but you only have to work half a day, once a month and your £2000 would be covered in no time!

What's the van worth now ?

If you want someone to invest some money, their share of the van should be based on what's its current value is. Not what it will be worth when the work is done.

(if it's worth say, £2k in its current state, then my "investment of £2k" would make me an equal 50% owner. Not a quarter owner)

You are asking someone to pay to fix your van because you can't afford to make it road worthy.

Then only have a quarter share of it when it actual worth something, due purely to their investment and not yours.

You are dreaming sorry.

It's a nice idea,

But the vehicles that are used for this sort of business are fully restored, show winning standard vehicles.

You can't expect a bride to turn up at a wedding in a van that need £2k worth of welding to get through an MOT.

the bride would never know ........

richs van is nice uptop and inside.

if you were to do it for weddings etc it would have to be absolutely tip top mechanically as you would be hated if it broke down on the way to the church !

just how much welding is needded - is this van specialist rates or a normal garage ?

might be better going to see a specialist welder more than a garage.

is there much underneeth left to weld ie small cut outs for splicing in good metal to or is it a case of strip down to shell cut out alot of rust and start agaiwith a new floor pan ?

No April fools had happy times with the van and would like to keep ideal chance for someone that was possibly tinkering with the idea of buying but would like to try out a old camper.Been offered a sizable cash amount for the van but really want to keep and I do not mind sharing as I have another bike van for getting about which I stupidly bought before its MOT just needed a van to get about quick.
Done the Wedding marlarky but just for friends

Your best bet is to do it yourself, if you have a lot of spare time and have or can find the space to do it. The welding skill needed to do that type of repair isn't that high. All you would need is someone to show you the basics and practice on test pieces until you get it right.

The vans are so popular that anything you could imagine needs doing will be covered in detail in a thread somewhere or another. You can buy a new welder for £200-£250 and £20-30 for a grinder and your away. It's a shame we are at different ends of the country otherwise if you wanted to do it yourself I could show you what to do.

likewise burls - hell if youd been close rich id have let you have my mig for a bit.

having seen some garages welding you can very easily match or better your average non caring garage from what ive seen .... most price welding at crazy prices as they simply dont want anything to do with it .....

have a word with the guys over on retro rides. them boys love a project. and that means they LOVE to weld.

i reckon you'll find a local 'pal' to help you out on there if that's the plan.
