As the hive mind that is the STW massive usually comes up trumps on all kinds of stuff, I was hoping that someone might be able to identify the little fella I photographed a short while ago on a small apple tree in my back garden.

Rather pretty little thing, maybe a little over an inch long.

No, I am not going to kill it! The very idea...
Hmmm, Vapourer moth, could be, I'll have a shufti. Thanks for the suggestion, scaredypants.Trouble is, the only book I have with any photos of British butterflies and moths in only shows the adults, so a bit difficult knowing where to start. Now, if it had been a Hawk Moth caterpillar, I'd be fine... 😀

No, sorry, not a Vapourer, or Rusty Tussock moth.

Scaredy, spot on! Well done that man 😀
Never actually heard of them before, and the moth is very well camouflaged, so not surprising it's new to me.
Apparently they feed on fruit trees, as well as hawthorn and blackthorn, so not surprising I found it where I did.
I love this site, seldom fails to come up trumps! Thank you everyone! 😀
