I don't suppose anyone knows if this is the only footpath only section between Woldingham and Guildford?

I dont know but ive ridden it thousands of times and never been challenged. (lived in betchworth/ buckland for 22 years)

Looking at this on a bing maps OS now, you will be better off sticking to the top of the ridge rather than following the footpath

email in profile, happy to help if i can

A few bits of the actual NDW is footpath between Woldingham and Guildford (eg bits on Ranmore), however there are bridleway/byway options which you can take

@rewski drop me an email

Aye, tis legally very footpathy ... but also very rideable. Like titusrider, I've ridden round there for years and never once been challenged.

IIRC the offical NDW nr Woldingham does drop down the slope (M25 side) and then become a bit of a faff as you head east. Not worth riding that section IMO. Stick to the woody bits above.

climb up the the water tower.
great little cheeky descent behind the caravan park back down to the NDW
sharp left along the NDW for 100 years then sharp right down to bottom.

best trail on Boxhill.... 8)

ride along the base to the next BW and back up the top you go

Very interesting, im not sure I've done that then. I've done the bit below the ndw (v steep tunnel like) and the track to the east (steep overgrown) but not sure I've done that! Some exploring required when im next at my parents I think.

its got a nice traversy bit, then steep steep drop onto the NDW (lethal if wet!)
then nice Singletack along the NDW, then flat out fast down to the bottom, watch the sweeping corner though, been in the bushes there at high speed!

Nuke - Sam will tell you why its called dead cat...or maybe maimed cat ๐Ÿ˜ฏ

Some great pointers, thanks all, god I love STW sometimes ๐Ÿ˜€

@ freeridenick - does that DH trail bring you out at the cheeky steep steps?

Edit: actually I've just remembered the steps bring you out by the stepping stones.

Stepping stones is the other side of boxhill. This side you hardly see anyone. the footpaths are to steep for walking really ๐Ÿ˜›

Well I gave it my best but bailed at Black Cap on the SDW near Lewes, missing out three of the toughest climbs on the SDW, will do it all next time. It was a great ride though, the Downslink is what it is, a disused railway line so flat and dull, but a great way to link up the North and South Downs. I gave those DH's a try at Boxhill, the climb up was very steep I had to push up in places because of low hanging branches but the DH was worth it, some sketchy off camber roots. I stayed high on Ranmore as recommended and then headed over to St Marthas Hill, which was very sandy in places, any non-sandy routes would be welcome.

Thanks again for all the route tips.
