There’s a chuffing big box in our yard that says Marin on it.

A second ride, and I’m down to princess and pea stuff.

Bars rotated forward, stem down under spacers, saddle tilted a tad, tyre pressures down (from 45 psi!), forks softening up nicely…

It’s feels blooming fast, feels very rearward balanced yet doesn’t wheelie uphill. The low 42t is enough for steep old hills, but I haven’t got a high enough top gear (meh).

The front of the thing looks and feels massive – going from skinny steel, fox 32’s and 1 1/8″ head tube to flat top tube, tapered head tube and 35mm stanchions and a rim that’s twice as wide changes the view forwards massively – and you can feel the stiffness.

Also got mine sorted now, it’s bloody quick.

    A seriously fun bike.

Got mine sorted. You’re both right it is very fast.

Stripped the crank thread like a fool before the first ride. Told you I’d need SLX. Idiot.

Another ride and another faff – the zipties used on the downtube cable are huuuge, and lifting the bike onto shoulders or over stuff means they catch clothing or scratch. Smaller zipties needed.

I also note that we have a rear facing seat clamp slot (remember them?) however it is also covered by a rubber gizmo.

    And another pic…

You’ve ridden it several times, and yet it’s spotless.
    How does that work?!

    Update.

Some new tyres have transformed it…
I’ve just got round to popping a couple of tokens in the fork…

Bottom bracket is siezed(!) on drive side. Replacement Shimano from spares box is too tight – the crank *needs* Marin plastic tophat, not the Shimano one with new BB. I’m calling Rutland on monday to see if warranty might play ball…

Other than that I’m getting faster and faster in the thing. Really enjoying it.

I’ve only just seen this. That’s a nice looking hardtail!

What tyres did you go for on it?

I’ve some OnOne Chunky monkey and Smorgasboard on – one ride in so far, but so much better than the Ralph it had.
The Nobby Nice also seems quite hard – I had it wash out at Laggan last week, on a rock slab…

Never tried On One tyres, but I always hear good things.

Is the Nobby Nic the plasticy “Performance” version? That would explain it 🙂

Matt which tyre do you run on the front? I’m still running a 26” bike and they are only £13 per tyre. Thinking they will be better than my wtb mutano raptors for trail centre duties on my on one 456. Also which compound version? 42a or 60a? Cheers
