I have seen this before to a greater or lesser degree, almost always on the Specialised Control sidewalls. I’m guessing I’m just seeing this now because I’ve not ridden the stumpy for a few weeks so its not been dirty/cleaned (Had an endurance event yesterday, so had been getting acquainted to the lightweight hardtail 29er again).

I’m not overly concerned, as I put about 200ml of stans goop in each tyre, just interested to know if other tyres tend to do this as well, as I didn’t notice it with the few Maxxis I have run, or the Grid sidewalls on the winter Purgatory.

Its completely normal. They will seal up eventually. And yes, its only the Control / S-Works casings that do this, never experienced it with Grid tyres.

Mine do that as well (WTB light/fast) but they’ve stayed up.

Getting this on my Maxxis (EXO TR), mainly on the rear DHR2, less so on the front DHF.

That is nothing compared to a Schwalbe TL….

Happens with many brands and compounds. I’d suggest it increases when temps rise but that’s just based on my own observations.

My Purgatory’s did this on first conversion a few weeks ago, but have been largely dry since and hold air fine.

I’ve got schwalbe evo tyres that still do it after a year on the bike….

Same re the schwalbes, if anytihng they are getting worse with age – although riding a lot of rocky areas it could be increased abrasion.

Maybe, my purgatory controls have been on the bike for 18 months now and still weep.

I’ve had a few ground controls & not had it happen.

Think it was a conti that weeped so badly I binned it

I’ve had it on old ground controls and conti race kings. The conti’s did it from new but did eventually seal up. The ground controls only did it when worn and threads were visible. They never stopped weeping.

Same issue here with Control, not with Grid. Converted 4 tyres on the weekend.

    200ml Stans per tyre?!

Although they weep continuously it’s not a lot of volume of the latex – I was expecting it to dry up quickly but it hasn’t really. They lose a little air as well but again, it’s not like they’re completely flat after a week.

My Schwalbe TLE Hans Dampfs do this after any rocky rides where the sidewalls get rubbed.

Continental baron proket is the only one I’ve seen this on, regularly use grid butcher, purgatory too but no leaking there.

My one Purg control does this, must be 2 yrs old, but pressure only drops slightly even after a month or two stood and there are a few light grazes to the sidewalls.

Interestingly the Purgatory Control on the front isn’t doing it, just the Ground Control on the back. Glad to see its not an unusual case at least.

My tyres cry more the more use they get.
