Hi folks, its a very long time since I've been here.
I'm now based in the Middle East, near Dubai, UAE. There is a good scene here and a lot of riding happens at night. Even at night though its hot, damn hot. Its not unusual for us to be riding in temperatures of 35 degrees at night during the summer.
My home build light that was built with racks of help and some bits from posters on this forum might have had its day. Have a look here for the details http://ianganderton.wordpress.com/2007/10/21/my-cateye-abs-halogen-to-cree-led-project/
One of the LED's has failed and both the batteries have died. I think the led has failed due to the unit cooking up once to often.
So what I'm after is a cost effective bar mounted light that gives a nice floody beam somewhere just over 500 lumens. It needs to have excellent heat management.
I'm thinking that running a light at 70% will help. Most lights are designed to be run in more normal temperatures, de tuning a bright light should help. A programmable driver would be handy.
What do the STW collective recommend?
Any help gratefully received
Ian
