Mk 5 Golf rear tyre...

[Closed] Mk 5 Golf rear tyres wearing on the inner edge, common problem I think?

Only just noticed this when mate was fitting new discs, googled it and it appears that it's a common occurrence on these cars?
Mate has worked on a few of these and said it's common. A guy changed rear shocks, rear bushes & had wheel alignment done and the tyres still wore unevenly...

So has anyone managed to rectify the issue ok or is it just the case of swapping the wheels around now and then?
TIA

Sounds the same as our Passat. Apparently TADTS.

I just keep them pumped up fairly hard to try and even it a bit. Rears last ages on FWD cars so even though they wear unevenly, they don't wear quickly.

My Mini does this in quite an extreme way, I was told my my MOT tester not to have the suspension adjusted as it would ruin the handling.

The tyre can make a huge difference on this.

I used to use Kumho Ecsta Sport (KU31's I think) that went really badly saw-toothed on the rear inside edge. Ended up having to replace only half-worn tyres as the uneven wear makes them really rumbly.

Swapped to Matador MP44 and the problem went away completely.
Just fitted some Matador MP47s to my current Ibiza & they seem fine so far....

I think there setup for a full load. My mate cured his by keeping some bags of sand in the boot.
Only problem was there is no room for any shopping ๐Ÿ™„

I used to use Kumho Ecsta Sport

Ditto, same tyres. Tried putting them on the front but the wear pattern made a horrible droning noise so put them back on the rear until they were dead.

This is worth a try !

Same sort of wear on my Audi A6 Quattro. I think its a common side effect of modern car design

Hopefully mate is going to look at the rear shocks and bushes tomorrow just to see if anything untoward.
