to compliment a super tacky high roller in the Peak, any good? User opinion?
I run one on the rear with a Rubber Queen black chilli up front and it seems to work ok.
I have the exact combo - the high roller picks up loose stuff and chucks it at you, the advantage has not quite enough mud traction. I don't know the Peak though.
Really rate the Advantage and, unlike most, more so than the HR...Good grip for descending and braking whilst not being too draggy imo. I normally run an Advantage 2.25 front and rear on my more trail/AM wheelset and, on my current lighter but still suitable for damp conditions wheels, a 2.1 Advantage on the rear (Mud-X up front). Surrey Hills based so can't answer to how they would perform in the Peaks though.
sorry had a wire 2.1 draggy as hell for me moved to an 2.3 ignitor or used nobby nic 2.25 or kenda blue groove
Run 2.1's F&R (F- Exception) My playground is the peaks.
Not as fast as they look, but also grippier than they look. Can clog a bit more than I like at low speed but give em a spin and they clear like magic.
I ran the lust version front and rear around the peaks and I'd happily put them on again.
2.25 wire F+R and love them, best tyre I've used so far, ride mainly Peaks.
Hated mine on the front, so stuck it on the back and got HR on the front. The advantage is a bigger volume than HR but this combo seems to work in most conditions.
I run 2.25 back and front. i did the french alps last year and ride on moorland every week. i rate these tyres which are fitted to my orange 5pro. they dont seem to drag to bad, and get very very few punctures. They do seem to be a do it all tyre. i just alter the pressure between 30lb and 40lbfor the terrain and get on and ride. you wont go far wrong with your choice
My rear tyre of choice for 8 months of the year.
have 2.25 on the full sus
They're ok. I've gone through the sidewall quite quickly though. You know when you get the stripes from the canvas coming through. I'm going to have to change the rear as theres a hole developing.
Going to go for Nobby Nics
oh also in the Peak..
HR front & advantage rear here. Works really well for 90% of my riding, although none of it is in the Peaks. Change to advantage front & larsen TT rear when it's really dry.
Maxis Minion singleply 2.35 60a tacky on the front and 2.1 Advantage 70 on the rear which comes up surprisingly big volume on a wider rim like my flows...great general trail combo for my hardtail. Only swap out the Advantage for bridleways winter mud fests with a 2.1 dual compound Bontranger mud x. Going to try a Maxxis cross mark for hardpack summer trails though as a faster rolling Advantage alternative when less grip needed.
I had been running 2.1 Advantage front and back on the HT during winter bashes around the local woods and found them to be perfect for slicing through the mud so I thought I'd do the same on the FS.
Biiiiig mistake, twitchy as hell especially when you get that first rain fall creating a layer of grease on the rocks and stones in the peaks.
LBS told me to change over the front end to a 2.25 Ardent. Could not believe the difference. Loads & loads of grip with no noticeable change in the wet. Best tyre combo I've run.
I have been told that the CrossMark works well on the back with the Ardent too but I suspect the Advantage is better for the Peat & mud in the Peaks.
I run them all as UST's with about 34 Psi at the back and 30 Psi up front.
