  • Mavic clipless pedals, rebranded Time's – how does that work ?

Just replacing some old Time Atac’s and seeing that the Mavics are exactly the same as Time’s, across most of the mtb and road range.

How does that work for big suppliers then ? seems weird surely to have 2 well known companies selling same product with different livery ? Now quite Audi/VW as identical apart from colour and graphics…

People are strange. Some folks would never buy Time stuff but quite happily buy the identical Mavic.

Mavic save the costs of developing a new product that they don’t really have history with, Time presumably get a nice slice of the purchase price and probably replacement cleats when needed.

Mavic are better established in MTB world than Time, Mavic have no pedal to go with their shoes. Therefore Time and Mavic come to an agreement that gets more Time pedals sold and gives Mavic a pedal that’s ready to go straight to market. Time take a hit on profit but it must still be viable, Mavic take a slice and do the selling. Everyone’s a winner

Could the new Mavic pedal look like this?
These Mavic pedals are no more
After quietly discontinuing its road pedals at the end of last year, Mavic today announced a new partnership with Time for “a technical collaboration” on road and mountain bike pedals going forward.

While no specific plans were announced, Mavic did say the clipless road and mountain pedals would be made in France and based on Time’s ICLIC and ATAC designs.

The French companies’ headquarters are about two hours apart, with Mavic in Annecy and Time in Vaulx-Milieu.

It remains unclear whether the new pedals will be branded just Mavic, or co-branded Mavic and Time. Mavic communications manager Zack Vestal said he didn’t yet know specific plans for the pedals.

In a press release, Mavic president Bernard Millaud spoke in general terms about an “alliance that will contribute to the success and development of our two brands.”

One and the same it would seem since 2013 -http://dirtragmag.com/mavic-and-time-join-forces-co-develop-road-mountain-pedals/

Either way IMO they are great pedals (got both Time and Mavic in the same design on the MTB’s) robust, easy in/out, nice amount of float, good platform for when you don’t want to be clipped in and shed mud well.

Just picked up a pair of the Mavic branded ones there at lunchtime !

I have been on Time’s on MTB and Road for over 10 yrs – great for my hypermobile old knees !
