  • Large Print Wall Photo
  • eskay
    Full Member

My wife wants a photo turned into a large picture to hang on the wall. I don’t want a canvas effect picture but more like a large matt finish photo printed onto something that is probably about 5mm thick.

    Can anyone recommend anything?

    Me naked.

Is that to satisfy the 5mm requirement?

Yup that’s about as wide as my body gets.

Do you want to drop me a mail? Address in profile. I get really high quality large format prints done all the time. I can give you the details of someone who does it really well. I have mine printed on to light-blocked, colourfast 180gsm vinyl film, then framed.

    We can do this.
Full colour print on vinyl, mounted onto 5 or 10mm foamex (Solid PVC foam)
    Gloss or matte over laminate.
    Where are you?
Carriers are quite good at damaging large prints!

I live just down the road.

I need some large printing on vinyl.

Where are you in Avonmouth? I could call in and explain better my wants and possible costs.

RT, Were on the Chittening Ind. Est., The far end of Avonmouth from the Portway. (BS11 0YB).
We’re in Avonmouth and we make signs so we should be easy enough to find online!
We offer good rates to STW’ers!

We can print unto 1.58m wide in one piece, bigger than that we would have joins or overlaps.
Anything wider would be troublesome applying.

Mod’s, Sorry if this is not within the forum rules.

Out of interest is there a minimum resolution for a photo in order to be blown up to this size and not look naff?

Most large format printers will only use the equivalent of a 72dpi line screen anyway, so you should be right to go to anything that equates to that when the image is at 100%. Anything more and you’ll lose resolution rapidly though

We will use as high a resolution as we can get! That’s usually quite low though!
We have just done some print for some van graphics which were 120dpi at full size, looked very sharp close up. We have some prints on our wall which are quite low, but you can’t get closer than 20 feet from them so it’s not a problem.
    They would look dreadful close-up.
For us it’s all about DPI Vs Viewing distance.

@TheDTs, did you get my email?

Picked up my print from @TheDTs, really pleased with how it has turned out. Matt effect, B&W photo printed onto 5mm foamex, it will look amazing one the wall (800mm*600mm).

Nice to meet you this afternoon and I will be recommending you to anyone who asks where I got it from. I think my wife will be over the moon with it on her birthday.

All the best and I may be in touch for future work!

I’ll see if I can take one tomorrow (it is in the garage as it is a birthday present for my wife) or, if you can wait I’ll take a photo of it mounted on the wall on Tuesday after I have given it to her.

    Apologies for the delay ste_t.

Unfortunately the photo does not do the original justice:

See the reply to the op from binners. I’ve seen the stuff binners gets done (he’s an artist, not a printer)

His suppliers only work on a Tuesday morning though… 😉
