Im now looking to buy new forks for my 2012 giant trance x4, im looking at the rock shox revelation 150/120 but will this be too much for this bike, would i be better off with the 140/110? only doing to 2-3 foot drops at present but will be going bigger as my skill and confidence improves, I will mainly be riding trail centres,hitting medium sized jumps and drops.

Mate has built one up using rev 150s - he said it felt ok on the downs but a bit too wandery on the ups - running at 140 now

on mine it was, (2010 model, large size). Front too high and wandery. Dropped to 140 and flipped the stem and fitted flat bars - it's a lot better. May drop to 130 though to get the sharp handling back.

Did he change the fork or is it it possible to adjust to 140 from 150? im under the impression that u either buy a 150-120 OR 140-110

I've got Sektor RL U-turns on mine (110-150mm) and was winding them down to 110mm for the climbs and then up to 150mm for the downs, but following a great trip to Gisburn Forest in Dec where I left them at 140mm (before Sag) I now leave them at this.
This made real sense because with the Reverb now fitted I don't have to stop at the top of the hills to drop my seat, so got fed up with winding out the forks too.
Was great around the classic Ladybower loop yesterday, so I'd say go with 140mm as a max.Posted 4 months ago # -
Similar thing here, 2009 trance x with rev 110-140 u-turns. I find 140 to too much for anything other than downhill. Tend to have them set at 125 for most use. Flat bars or lo risers is most definitely something to consider too.

I'm running 120-150 revs team u turns on mine. Transformed the bike imo. Use 120mm for climbs, 140mm for the flats and 147mm for the downs (get slight suck from running 5psi more in the negative chamber) . Dropped some spacers out the headset to lower the bars and run 745mm bars with a 70mm stem.
Also remember the trance x actually has 127mm travel.
Brilliant bike but if I'm honest i run it at max travel most the time and it feels superb so often leave it there even on climbs.
Measured headtube angle the other day. 69.5 deg at 120mm and 67.2 at max travel which makes it much more playful on the downs

140 is bang on for me, (trance-x 2009 revs) i wouldn't want any longer, i flipped my stem to get the bars lower/forward for better weight distribution too.

Just put Float 140s on my 2011 x4 large and they feel great, still climbs like a whippet and feels a lot smoother going down. Don't know about 150 though.
In my opinion I don't know why they sell then with 120s on (apart from the XO) 140 all the way!!! Pretty sure its an opinion felt by many others two.

I have 150s on mine and as yet I'm not convinced. I Think I need to improve my slow speed compression as it dives far too much on really steep stuff.
I've dropped the stem and I might even go lower, to be honest I never found that much problem with the original forks, I only replaced them because they broke.

If you want u-turn, i'd probably go 110-140, I did a bit of research on the trance and had a go on one and the general consensus was 140mm was the max the frame would suit. I'd just save a few quid and get a fixed one though, and set it up at 140mm.

i have u-turn on mine but just leave it at 140, it may climb better at 120 but i can't be bothered to change it.
