Am considering an Edge 800 but wanted to see whether people here had had any sucess with iPhone setups. In particular, software used, whether there are decent off-road (e.g. OS) maps available, offline mapping access, ruggedised cases ideally with additional battery capacity etc etc.

Have done some research into different software etc but there doesn’t seem to be a setup that does it all particularly well – but if any people know different, it’s going to be the stw people…..

    Your setup and experiences welcomed…..

I’ve used Memory Map on my iPhone4, it seems to work really well but I’ve not been bar-mounting it or anything. But it’ll do routes and tracks superimposed on an OS map, gives average/max speed etc. Maps are downloaded to the device so they’re all available offline. Seems to work really well and it’ll run in the background so it doesn’t completely destroy the battery. I’ve not done any actual tests, but I’ve done 4 hour rides and had no battery troubles with it.

I got an Ibike phone booth for Christmas (they sell them in the uk apple stores, but couldn’t find them on the uk website) and Viewranger[/url]. It’s £14.99 for the premium version of viewranger on the app store and you get a load of credits to download OS maps to your iPhone. Their customer support is 2nd to none. I’ve been using it for around 10 years and the maps I bought for my Nokia 10 years ago I’ve been able to use on every phone since as they provide a license key upon request. I’ve emailed at 11pm for a new license key and had a response within a few minutes.
I’ve been out a few times with the ibike mount. The phone seems very secure and protected from the elements, just need to adapt some winter gloves so I can use the touchscreen now.

cheers for the heads up muggomagic on view ranger.
I got myself a good case and have been trailing it at home here and seems to work a treat. Need to mention customer support as its second to none, had a few niggly questions and both have been answered out of hours in under 10 minutes. unbelievable really.

Anyway got myself a 1;25000map of the lakes and downloaded a few routes to follow, can’t wait to use it in anger.
