My old light was a bit bulky (350g) so thought I’d make a new one. I was going to put some new, super-bright Cree XHP70, LED’s in it but got sent the wrong ones so just wired it up with 2 old triple XML’s.

Will re-wire once the replacements arrive.

I’m quite pleased with it 😀

That looks great. What did you get the weight down to?

Stevie, do those front rings in front of the optics screw in with a bottom bracket tool? 🙂

Nice work as usual, which driver are you using and battery?

I’ve got loads of parts that I haven’t used just sitting in boxes!

Cheers GD. Unfortunately not, just circlip pliers. Using a HBflex with a Smudge 15v5.2aH battery.

Any bits you’d be looking to sell? I’ve got a helmet light I’m working on and need a few bits for that 😉

Noticed that the illuminated switch shines through the bottom of the switch and lights the optics up nicely 😀

Nice simple bar bracket,I am falling out with the o-ring style one on mine.
Must sort that out before winter

Could we press you for a few details of the machining processes?

Do you do your own anodising?

Inquiring minds and all that 😉

Luckily have access to 5-axis machines at work so all done in 6 operations (2 main body, 2 bracket and 2 for the bottom heatsink) as it’s possible to machine 5 faces in each set-up.

Do you do your own anodising?

Unfortunately not 🙁 Got the anodising done by these guys: https://www.facebook.com/chameleonano/ Did a cracking job on the light and also did some great ‘kashima’ anodising on a linkage I made a while ago.

    Stevie,
If I can recover my darkness dominator from Trout, would you be interested in trying to fix it for the appropriate recompense?

Nice light but I’m more interested in the mount!
    What is it?

    What is it?

It’s one I made specifically for this light. Offset to get the centre of the light in the centre of the stem 🙂

Finally got the parts I needed to finish this off properly 🙂

    2 x XHP70 LED’s @ 5a – it’s quite bright 8)

Also got bored and wanted a new helmet light so modified an old Magicshine body I had to take a quad XPL-Hi board and a HBFlex driver. Increased the surface area a bit, modified the insides and it’s good for about 4k lumens.

I know, I know, it’s not all about how many lumens but how good the beam is. I’ll find that out later 😉

Hope you’ve got some monster battery packs though!

My night-rides are only a couple of hours, mostly climbing with short/fast downs. The bar light will do just over an hour on full but only need that for 5% of my rides, on the lowest setting it’ll do about 5hrs.
The helmet light is about the same.

Very nice. What optics do you have in there and will you post some beam shots?

Ledil IRIS in the bar light, GT4 in the helmet light. Hoping to be able to do some beam-shots tonight.
