wen my whippet was tiny ,he saw his father dog being ravished by a big dog.... (the father) had to have 17 stitches...so the youngest whippet has always been terrified of other dogs... hes always screaming wen other dogs try to get near him... not all dogs are friendly.... so my dog isnt sociable at all with any dog... its just the way hes grown up to be scared of other dogs ?
maybe i need Ceaser Millan drafted in from America...

ps.... you all mite scoff at my thread but if you had a nervous whippet to live with day in day out and have much bigger dogs scaring the life out of him then you have no compassion,,,gooodbye!

pps.... oh and just for the record.... this huge dog was not running up to my dog wagging his tail.... he was growling and looking aggressive and barking.... otherwise i wouldnt have started this thread obviously !!! The dog was NOT happily wagging his **** tail... !!!!!

has anyone mentioned that theres no such thing as a miniture whippet? Italian Greyhound maybe? Anyway dog thread great. I took my lurcher racing at the weekend. 3,2,1 there off, apart from Kea who lay down cause she's too well behaved to run away from me!!!

Bloody hell ... it just two big dogs FFS! Stand you ground unless they are "killer" dogs in that case ... scream like Nancy boy.
It's not the dogs' fault it's the owner and the best thing to do is throw some dog turd at the owner. That will learn her.
What pisses me off big time is this ... Some govt cowards did this to a dog. Call me whatever you want but I would like to treat those cowards to Henry VIII style "hospitality".

you should have been much clearer in your op, at no point did you mention the dog was growling or being aggressive. I sympathise with your situation and as before I can only recommend you persevere with socialisation. Meet up with friendly dogs you are comfortable with and let nature take it's course. Your dog may be frightened at first, but you have to let go or your own anxiety will transfer to your pooch. Over time your dog will realise she is not in constant danger, otherwise you are both doomed to walking in dog free zones, which is almost impossible.I am now a dog lover, although I used to be afraid of them. My dog is not allowed to approach dogless people, not that she bothers to, but she is allowed to approach other off lead dogs.

I gave up lure coursing Ted, he was very keen and all that, but if he got ahead of the other dog he'd just barge it to a stop and start a bit of a scuffle halfway up the course.
I just go to take pics now.

little whippet ( hes a runt actually) thats why hes smaller than your normal whippet.....he,s actually going for a walk today with a 'sheepdog' (which is apparently is abit of a psysco ? lol. im not going....my daughter is taking him... told her to muzzle my dog initially until they get used to one another.......

That sounds great elaine, I hope it works out well. One of the things that I really enjoy about my dog is seeing her play and interact with all her chums. She has a group of five that she meets on her morning walk, they all meet up and play for half an hour, it is so good for them.

When they make the movie of Singletrackworld, I see the 'dog debate' scene being filmed like the end of House of Flying Daggers, where the two opposing sides are frozen in conflict through the changing seasons, until finally TJ and his protagonist collapse to the ground throwing up a slow-mo spray of dog turd.

Goon, great pics. Kea went to straight line racing rather than turny coursing. She did run on her second go about 50m then seemed to wonder what she was chasing and stopped. The she had a go on her own at the end and did the whole 350m then turned round and sprinted all the way back too. I'll take her again and see if she cottons on. She liked meeting the deerhounds who were there, they look like normal dogs only bigger and bloody funny to watch racing. She wasnt so keen on the little whippets who just seemed to bark constantly. She seemed to be the only dog there who just lay down and went to sleep between runs which says a lot about her I think.
