IMO unless you can visibly see any form of cracking, or can hear any unexplained creaking I would say no.

depends mostly on how much use it's seen I reckon - if it's unused, hanging in a shop vs 8yrs on the UK downhill racing game

You can make it fail 2morro or in 10 yrs.
Bit of luck and how hard you ride it.
If you're thinking of buying one 8 yrs old-don't pay too much.
