so I thought it was just because my mono mini levers were getting a bit long in the tooth, but just bought some more off the classifieds and they rattle as well!
any thoughts on how to solve it?

hope brakes...rattling lever - how do I solve...

1. Check that the pivot bolt is tight (dur!)
2. Replace the plastic bushes in the lever

Are they the old mini levers? If so it is probably the brass barrel.

Good point - is the lever actually rattling or is the just play before the brake engages? If the latter, it's the brass barrel as suggested.

no - they are the mono levers - but yes, they do have the brass barrel, I'll go and have another look...

Brass barrel is a key culprit. Somethimes they also ovalise the hole in the lever so may need new levers too, but a new barrel should sort it out.
