Thinking about setting up a home gym in my garage, anyone done this?
Starting off with a punch bag, maybe some gym mats, some dumb bells, but may go for full weights bench eventually, maybe a turbo or excercise bike.
Got to paint the garage floor 1st and block up some draughty bits. Anything I need to consider? Show me some pics??
Heres mine...
Nothing special - a bit of space for the bikes and kit, then a stud wall with opening into the gym area. Have also stud walled the up and over door end (and covered the ceiling in plasterboard). Offcuts of laminate used for floor and a load of cheap emulsion. There's a radio and ipod dock on a shelf out of shot.
Equipment:
Bench
Squat rack (home made)
Dip station (made from other bits of kit)
Chin bar
Ab bench
Bag
Assortment of free weights/bars
It's ace. If a little scruffy.
All the above (except excersize bike, dont see the point although a turbo trainer or rollers would be good), do make sure you include a skipping rope (good cardio workout), possibly a swiss ball for core work, medicine ball and my faviorite some kettle bells.
There's a swiss ball in the bike bit that I bring through, and a medicine ball lurking there somewhere. I agree the swiss ball is a great. versatile bit of kit. I often use it in place of the bench.
Agree on skipping as well, but save that for training with the club. We do 5x4 minute rounds at varying pace...soon gets sweaty!
SC-XC, from memory I remember you being into Kickboxing? same here been teaching for the last five years and the skipping rope along with press ups seems to do most of the workout I need to be honest.
Yep Glen, and I agree skipping/push ups (and some brutal pad work!) is the basis of a great workout.
I have just started teaching, so still learning the ropes.
