Have a just destroyed a brand new King BB?

Got a shiny new Chris King BB but accidently started screwing the non drive side cup in the wrong way and looks like I have damaged the threads making it hard to screw in. Got it in with a bit of force but now BB creakes when under power and BB cup hasn't quite gone all the way in - 1mm out probably but straight. Don't think the BB shell is daamged just the threads in the cup.

Options

(a) leave it and put up with a creak for the rest of the life of the bike
(b) get it out and try to re cut the threads in the cup
(c) get a new BB cup
(d) do something else

You complete plonker. Sorry nowt personal, but you asked for it. Bet you feel like a complete one. AND admitting it on here - brave, brave fella!
Get a new cup - you'll be laughed of the trails with a creaking King bb.
Personally, Creaks on my bikes really pish me off

Options: -

(a) leave it and put up with a creak for the rest of the life of the bike - will probably last about 1 ride!

(b) get it out and try to re cut the threads in the cup - Getting it out will probably be difficult enough, and will also be linked to (C) as you will probably need a new cup!

(c) get a new BB cup

(d) do something else - Best option i.e. Take it to your LBS as you may have damaged the threads in the BB also.

Take it out, get your LBS to run a tap through the BB shell and if you're carefull you'll be able to clean up the threads on the King cup with a Stanley knife blade and a small engineering file.

Seriously?? How far did you screw it in against the thread before you realised? I'm not sure people like you deserve nice things! There should be an aptitude test before you can buy a King BB

oh well mwenace you live and learn hey.

If you haven't seen thm before park tools website has guides on all tasks from simple innertube change to full bike strip down.

Youtube is also great for tips and advice on bike maintainence. good luck

are the chris king bb's so expensive they dont actually display which way to tighten then? Is it like some initiation... if you can figure out how to screw us in then you deserve to buy us!

I have a copy of Zinn in my shed. Before doing bb cups or pedal threads I always have to check which one is supposed to screw which way. I made this mistake 10 years ago, but with a cheap steel Kona and a cheap ST bb.

Maybe try install it with some teflon-tape, around the threads ???
Or some anti seize grease ???

I suspect you violated the key rule in dealing with mechanical rules. Only apply force doing something up when you're absolutely 100% positive it's correctly located or not jamming on something else. Very few new clean things will require force.

My bottom bracket was originally cut the wrong way round
The non drive cup screws into the drive side and vice versa,been like that for ten years without trouble[ie unscrewing itself]

You must have one hell of a grip to get it in that far cross-threaded
