Doh, a bit ago after a good few cans I decide to strip my stiff LX M571 shifter down to try and fix it. I'm now sat with a pile of springs, screws and levers and no clue how they came to bits.
Can't find anything on the big S website about how to put it together (exploded diagram would have been perfect).
Anybody know of a place that has info on shifters, or should I just pour all the bits into the bin and move the beer fridge out of the garage?

I might send the bits to Stella Artois and ask them for an explanation!
It's done for mate. I can't find any tech docs for Shimano shifters anywhere. I think there are specific assembly tools for holding parts in place when building them at the factory that are not available to the public.
As above, bin it and buy a new one, much easier.

And be grateful that you haven't dismantled an X9 shifter.
Probably no help this time, but I usually draw a picture or take a photo at various stages in the disassembly process.

No help anyway, you need a super slo mo camera to see where all the bits exploded from once you undo the retaining nut.
I've tried to strip and rebuild old Shimano shifters to diagnose faults over the last 10 years. Never managed to find all the bits, let alone rebuild one.lol
SRAM shifters are easy to rebuild. They just never last long once the sliding plates lose their coating.
exploded diagram would have been perfect.Take your phone out of your pocket, take a picture of the bits on the floor and e-mail it to yourself. Go to bed, check e-mail tomorrow. Hey presto, exploded diagram!
take the other side apart too but pay attention this time....then you will probably end up with 2 broken shifters and you will have no choice but to upgrade to a set of XT ones
Go singlespeed! Then you won't worry about the shifter
