A mech eng mate helped me fit the truss forks to Spaceframe, but isn't happy he's made / fitted a spacer wide enough to stop the forks being permanently "under load" once the stem is fitted. What size spacer has anyone fitted above the frame, below the forks?
You should fit sufficient spacer/shims that there's only the slightest amount of compression/preload required.
However, the approach Ive taken is to use a USE ringo star which is effectively an expanding stem spacer to take up the gap between the frame and the bottom of the top clamp of the fork. Works well, means the fork is not under load, and a lot less faff than trying to slip shims into the gap.

Did you open it up by squeezing the last slim spacer in? Fiddly job but that's how they're supposed to fit. The truss should put the headset in some compression, not rely on stem preload to tighten it all down.
Yes, the spacer was tight to fit. I have a wider spacer to try, as I think the first one we tried meant the forks are under compression when the stem was attached. But I haven't got the bars wheels yet so I'm trying to get everything sort of ready............
is there a step by step guide to fitting these anywhere, I've done some searches but no joy yet?
I have that, but it doesn't mention the actual size of spacer. I'm guessing it's slightly different for each bike. But was looking for somewhere to start.
It varies a bit, a few mm between forks / frames. Either a 1.5mm that comes with the cane creek top headset, or a 2.5mm on top of the headset plus a 2mm spacer (I think) seems to work for the steel + ti forks I have. Look at the gap there, add a couple mm of flex to the fork to open up a little gap, squeeze a spacer in and it should all stay in place under the truss's spring. No need to force a bigger one in if there's already a bit of compression force there, and more force isn't better fitting, it's just 'a bit of compression' rather than 'tighten the stem down to close the gap' as far as I'm aware.
Right finally got all the bits and in process of fitting and this is the gap I have:-

I reckon the gap is about 3mm so would a 5mm spacer be about right in there?
