mastiles - agree re BJ comment, not technically gifted but one of my faves
Chuck Prophet
Eddie Vedder
Chris Cornell
Grant Lee Phillips
Michael Stipe
Freddie Mercury
Bon Scott/Brian Johnson. True, they're/were not technically gifted singers but their voices fit the music perfectly and instantly recognisable.
Eddie Vedder
IJahMan Levi
Graham Parker
John Lydon
Don Van Vliet
Frank Black
Etc etc
Who the hell crossed out Bruce Dickinson and put Paul Dianno?!
No comparrison! Bruce is far more gifted, Dianno should stick to punk, though he has got better with age I'll give you that!
I'd nominate, (in no particular order) Marty Robbins(Pete Townsend is a big fan apparently),Jim Reeves (voice like ovaltine), Nat King Cole, Pavarotti? John Denver.
I like a lot of metal too but I reckon most would be classed as distinctive and not "good".
Loads, all good.
Robert Palmer (sadly missed), Van theMan, Stevie Wonder, Adrian Borland, John Martin, Peter Gabriel etc etc etc.
Got a soft spot for Rod the Mod though, the old Leggy Blonde-Addicted Serial Monogamist.
All together now: "I yam saaaaaaaaaaaiiiiliiiiiiingggg..."
Paul Rodgers - Free
Van Morrison
Warren Haynes - Allman Brothers
Crosby
Stills
Nash
Lowell George - Little Feat

Eddie Vedder
Andrea Bocelli

Eddie Vedder
Tom Waits
Jon Anderson (of Yes)
Cash
Elvis Costello
Mike Patton and Eddie Vedder are good choices. I'd probably add Ben Harper.
Technically, Wayne Coyne (The Flaming Lips) and Craig Finn (The Hold Steady) are not great singers, but they work very well with their bands' sounds.
Liam Gallagher on Definitely Maybe, before he became a parody of himself.
On 'Slide Away' in particular.
Sun session era Elvis, Sean McGowan, Johnny Cash, Otis Redding
