  • Engineered wood flooring and underfloor electric heating – good idea?

I’m just about to put in a new floor in my breakfast room which I was thinking of doing with engineered wooden flooring with electrical underfloor heating.

However the electrican came round last week and told my wife it’s not a good idea and the wood warps.

Has anyone good or bad experiences? Or any tips so the floor is not ruined. Need to know because we were about to choose the floor this coming weekend. Thanks

    I don’t know, but I know a man who does…..

I know someone who had this combination in a new-build flat. He told me that the underfloor heating was really good at warming up the floor – but nothing else.

We did this happily – in fact we were told that engineered wood is often more stable than solid wood….

I also fitted engineered oak flooring on top of our underfloor heating in a new build, it is now 3 years old with no problems at all.

    go for it

Isn’t the Engineered timber constructed as follows
Plywood with an 5mm to 10mm solid wooden veneer
Plus you have the acoustic underfloor mating underneath that

    Think you’ll be ok
If it was solid wood you may, may be in trouble and I would take a moisture
reading of the timber before going ahead.
But with the Engineered floor would be more stable

Didn’t the Romans solve this conundrum a few years ago?
    By using stone floors?
    🙂

OP, the breast comments? Long story.

How are you planning to lay/fit the floor?
