Sessions that I bid for, but didn’t get a ticket for are on just now and I see hundreds of empty seats – how does that happen? Medal event at the aquatics centre, Michael Phelps swimming and whole blocks of seats empty.

They really should have a standby system. You could pay £10, wait in a holding area outside a venue. If a seat is not filled with 10mins to go before the event, you get it.

    It annoys me too.
I bid on swimming events and find it quite annoying to see empty seats when I could have been there. 👿

    Inquiry

Its OK though, they are investigating why there WERE empty seats.

Instead of that stupid lottery they should’ve done 1st come 1st served and all tickets named (to be backed up with ID) ,hal empty stadiums at olympic events is poor

‘stupid lottery’ isn’t the problem. I’ll bet everyone who bought tickets on the lottery have turned up. It’s quite evidently corporate and media that are the problem and it’s flippin shameful.

You can still buy corporate tickets (at £500+) for pretty much all the events as they’ve not sold out – hence the empty seats.

EDIT Eg Men’s MTB race, VIP tickets @ £500 are still for sale.

I noticed that yesterday, Franksinatras idea is a good one. I know so many people who were desperate for tickets, if corporates don’t turn up they should be released, there’s bound to be people who would hang around on the off chance of a place becoming available

Franks idea is a good one on first glance, but imagine managing it…10,000 people turn up for the 500 unoccupied seats!

There would have to be another lottery/pre-register system that would give a limited number of people a stand-by pass that would allow them to wait for spare seats.

So where do we buy these corporate tickets? I’ve not been watching the Olympics website very closely but my wife is desperate to go to the Eventing (equine) as she competes at low level, I had to reign her in when she found some tickets for sale, £1200 a pop as they were part of a posh hotel package! Apparently she has been watching the European sites as well. We did get a couple of tickets for the dressage but I know she would gladly give them up for the eventing!

sites like thomas cook still have cheep tickets for most events.. the catch is you have to buy an overnight for a travel lodge.. so thats a 30 quid ticket and 49 for travel lodge79 all in? not quite..

    they want 545 each..

It’s a good idea in principle.
As long as they’re sure that the empty’s aren’t just people still in the queue to have their bags’ searched, or delayed by poor transport links.
And as I’ve been told to allow two hours plus for security checks going in, anyone getting tickets 10 minutes after the start is unlikely to get in before the end of the session.
    Hope they sort something out.

I think its disgusting that there are so many empty seats as there are so many genuine fans out there that cant attend……and its a great shame for the athletes too!
