[#6899034]

I'm busy with the search function trying to answer my own question, but in the meantime, since time is of the essence...

Can you test ride On One bikes at their Sheffield Store?

I'm thinking of driving over from Manc to try a Disco today, but they don't answer their phones on a Sunday. So I don't know if it will be a wasted journey.

Any incidental comments about whether One One is a good or bad idea generally. And comments on Dirty Disco in general are very welcome.

(want it for a 25 miles a day commute mainly on road but with 3 miles of farm track, potholes and a little bit of tree roots

cheers

Open 7 days a week for you to come and test ride bikes,

How embarassing.

Anyway, comments welcome on On One and Disco in general

I've got a DD. Built up with non-descript bits, Crest 29ers running Bontrager CX0s tubeless, Salsa Cowbells, 105 cranks, compact front and 11/32 up back and TRP Spyres. It weighs a measured 20b on the button complete with pedals, very comfortable and compliant, decently quick and a really good all-rounder. I ride on and off road and mostly for sort of mixed-up Peak District stuff.

It doesn't have mud-guard fixings if that worries you, but you can bodge XL Race Guards onto it I think. I really like it and I'd buy one again quite happily. Anything in particular you were wondering about? It is occasionally noisy in that hollow, carbon fibre box sort of way I guess, but you get used to it. Steering is a happy medium, quite relaxed but not overly so.

Mike Hall used one for his round the world mission bought with his own money and it seemed to survive that pretty well, so a 25-mile commute shouldn't be too bad.

I bought it off Planet X on eBay as a frame and fork for about half the price of what it sells for currently on their website. I've never had any problems with On One per se, but if you're going to buy from them, you need to get your head round the idea that the prices go up and down like an excited Jack Russell, so you might find what you buy at 50% of what you paid for it a week or so down the line. It's just how they roll. HTH.

excellent info.

all sounds good. I'm thinking I'll get one of the £1k builds that they advertise

No probs. It replaced a steel Soma Double Cross DC, which was a nice ride, but a little heavy. Couldn't believe how much quicker the DD felt with everything else the same spec-wise.

And right on cue, I see the DD frame/fork is now down to £450 when it was £800 last week 🙂

Yes, it does seem completely random what the prices are in the shop.

Does anyone have a view whether I could build up a Tiagra or Apex spec for less than the £550 price difference between a frame and a built up one?

Also, what groupset comes with Shimano Hydraulics?

Strictly speeking, none of them, they're R685, which makes them closes to ultegra (but they'll work with any shimano 11s groupset, so 105, Ultegra or DA), unlikely to get them on a <£550 build as they're £350 on their own!

they have finance arrangements... or if it's a full bike you can go the Cyclescheme route 😉

I bought a frame last week. I've put it where I can see it as I wake up until I have all the necessary trimmings to build it up. Lovely way to start the day 🙂
