You mean the hoseclip style fixing strap?

Is that a convoluted way of saying handlebar?

I think I know what you mean although I have only seen plastic. Like a string of upside down plastic U shapes linked, to smooth off the rounded profile of the cable outer

    Do you mean these?

I’ve only ever needed them when fitting bull bars because of the extreme cable bend…

I know what you mean. Not seen them for years and I’ve never used them. I have some In the garage if youre desperate I could look out.

posh brifters route cables under the bar tape, cheap ones dont. I dont think you can convert them?

think mrs antigee’s specialised (105) has some sort of plastic section strapped to the handlebars and then as exits tape switches to normal outer – I would just fit normal outer all the way – never seen it for sale even in the oddest long tail corners of the bicycle parts darkweb, my guess is its an easy factory fit and does the job

for shimano Tiagra and higher now have both sets of cables exit under the tape (99% sure) you can’t convert them 100% sure

Most people just run cable outer to the lever and then tape that to the bar before the bar tape itself goes on?

you don’t get a ‘lump’ where the cable outer is on the finished bar tape – just put it somewhere the shape feels comfortable.

Im assuming he means brake / gear cable outers.

    These things?

    http://jagwire.com/products/small-parts/ez-bend-housing-segment

Those are supposedly for brakes. Don’t know of an equivalent for gears.

In general, they’re not necessary, but I had a battle with some SRAM hydraulic shifters that have the cable exit at a stupid angle, and if you tried to route it with normal gear outers you’d get a lot of friction due to the tight bends. I eventually solved it by using a short section of brake outer to get it around the bends.

nope, if im right its a bit that fits over the cable outer. mine came with a set of 7700 duraace shifters.

the plastic/white bits in the pic above

aye, I thought they meant the white bits. I tried them and they made the bar too wide for me but still had a lump like with cables

I’ve thrown away (literally) dozens of those. One of the most useless ideas ever. They aren’t even needed with old school bar tape.

wow, didnt think that was goig to get such a response. i should have made it clearer. I have nokon cables and these section are the ones pdw fired the link to. Not sure if they have a name but nokon do spares:

Isn’t it easier to replace cable outer if you use these?

    Well, I was way off.
