Sitting in a cafe in Tideswell I saw a road cyclist pass by in a World Champion jersey followed by a white moped with 2 spare wheels on the back and Oakley stickers.

Would be a surprise if it was! Anyone else catch this?

If this is the Peaks, then yes, he was there.

Yes, he was over Tideswell/Cat & Fiddle way today, Snake Pass yesterday. He's been doing some track stuff at Manchester too . I saw him briefly, surrounded by a horde of schoolchildren, all pointing mobile phone cameras at him. ๐Ÿ™‚

Had a nice chat with Peta, his girlfriend. Little baby Delilah was fast asleep bless her, she was ever so sweet. About a week old.

Well spotted to all that caught him.

Cav's not a climber by any stretch of the imagination yet here he is in the Peaks doing a bit of training and in reality he'd make everyone on this site look foolish in the hills. Makes you think doesn't it...

Did anybody out riding come across him and stay with him, and was it a struggle?

he would make most British pro's look foolish. Because he doesnt climb like Schlek, C'ntador etc doesnt mean he cant climb.

Virtually no one on this site would stay with him if he was climbing full tilt. He's won MSR FFS !!!

That's what I meant really.

You say "virtually" no one on this site? ๐Ÿ™‚

Some people are very confident of their climbing on here aren't they

I think on UK length climbs he wouldn't get dropped so I suspect few on here could stay with him...

Not Cav but have ridden with Geraint Thomas, they are worlds apart from any "normal" cyclist. They make what feels like going fast to mere mortals look easy.

didn't he get KOM points in the tour of Britain once? They'll be virtually no climbs in the UK that he can't fly up...

People also foget that when you watch him climb in the grand tours its about 40 degrees and the heat is bouncing off the tarmac, severe.

Oh and he's prob done about 1500K's over the last few weeks.

He still does not look like a cyclist, although he's World Champion.

I was covering my back in case a proper pro (for whatever unimaginable reason)uses this site.

(by proper I mean one who rides on the continent and not one of these pseudo british squads that does regional races and think they are the shizz)

Don Simon is right though -cav is shit , I take it all back.

(I secretly wish I could climb 6 cols in a day in a grand tour, day after day and still have enough in the tank to notch up stage win after stage win etc etc etc)

Very true. Very few people that can actually "ride" a bike need to come on here and tell anyone....

Its great, I mean it in a good way, he's not a super ripped/defined monster like Griepel/Sagan/Boonen et al but can still thrash the lot, and he's a Brit. Hoorah !

Does he use mapmytracks? Sky use it so he must be there and you can then see his ride, do the same ride and upload and compare the 2 rides...

Here he is, but hasn't shared anything - http://www.mapmytracks.com/MarkCavendish

Come, come! I didn't say that now, did I? I think I said that he can't climb.
And losing 30 mins through Navacerrada and Bola del Mundo kind of says to me that he's a shit climber.

Completely agree

His jersey would suggest he is the best in the world although I suspect I know what you mean....

are we talking Vuelta 2010 ??

perhaps he was saving himself for one of his 3 stage wins or the points jersey overall which he won.

He isnt C()ntador (thank god) but we aren't saying he is.

He operates in a super elite band of top cyclists - you saying he cant climb, given his palmares, is simply farcical.

Fair point. Would still put his rides & climbs in to perspective of us normal riders!

I reckon the gap between best in the world and shit would be more than 30 minutes.

And the smiley I used in the first post says I'm not being 100% serious. He's a sprinter and not a climber, the fact that he is world champ says he's a bit more of an all rounder than the out and out climbers who've been able to dominate Le Tour. ๐Ÿ™„
I'm not sure the best climbers in the world were actually at La Vuelta 2010, but I could be mistaken.

Will, I agree - people have no idea how f'kin far ahead of normal riders someone like Cav is.

It would be simply ridiculous to even look at his figures.

For him to knock out 1500watts in Milan San Remo sprint after 200 miles, two climbs close to the end when everyone's on their knees and up against Fabu, haussler, Friere (etc etc etc)just puts into perspective how f'kin good cav is.

To say Cavendish is a shit climber is laughable, hes a sprinter that's his discipline he will say himself he dreads the climbs, that said on the stages that suit him hes awesome, respect where it due.

Crazy Legs ......you see these guys all the time at Velo. You know they are a world apart and Cav is on a different level again.

We can return to this in 8 years when his results simply confirm what I am saying.

And that's the point he dreads them in relation to the riders around him.

None of these riders are muppets no matter where they finish in any of these races. The difference between the "worst" of them and any of us is immeasurable.

OK, Cav. I reckon he's in the top 150 best climbers in the WORLD.

That's quite good.

Its kind of like saying Schlek is a crap sprinter, I bet most Pro Tour riders are better Climbers, sprinter, downhillers, water carriers than anyone on here!

Aha! Yes. Yesterday on the back road from Glossop to the Woodhead Pass or Holme Moss as it crosses the TPT.

Cool having a personal backup service, wondered if they would carry my 3.5 litres of drink, food, spares etc ๐Ÿ™‚

I wish I could climb as badly as Cav or even sprint as badly as Contador or Time Trial as badly as the Schlecks
