Does such a thing exist? I'm a 14 stone mildly aggressive XCer looking to upgrade my cable discs. I can probably stretch to about £100. Is there anything in my budget that's worth buying?

Deore every time. There's flasher and more powerful, but you can't go wrong with them. 🙂

You can get a complete set of Elixir 1 inc discs on Ebay for £65 (from Hong Kong so I don't know if they're knock offs or not).

Do those new Deores use the standard Shimano shape pads used by SLX and XT (IIRC they used different ones previously)

From the parts diagram, pad shape is the same as old XT etc.

Deore - fitted a pair to a Scandal 29er four weeks ago. Excellent value, great performance and easy to install. I cut the hoses to correct length and no bleeding was required.

^ those are the older ones. The newer ones share their design with the current SLX and XT just without the frills. Bike Discount have the fronts for £32 and rears for £35. You will need adapters for your current rotors but odds are your current ones will work with them.

Sub-£100 you'd have to be demented to get anything but Shimano, tbh.

My hardtail has M595 deores, and my newer bike has the latest SLX which seem to be a different pad. I believe they used to be same but not any more.

That set up above has centre lock discs so careful if you go for a set with discs that you get the right ones.
