  • Dalby forest: Camping near by (or B&B)

Fancy going up to ride @ Dalby and visit Mrs NBT's brother who lives nearby. We'd normally camp at the excellent site @ Rosedale Abbey (there are some lovely pubs in the village too, you see!) but it's £20 a night for a tent! Is it me or is that horrendously expensive for pitching a tent? Are there any other nice campsites in the area that are less expensive? Or a reasonably priced B&B (yes I know it'll be more expensive but it'll be less hassle than camping!)

If you are after somewhere quiet then you could try St. Helens in the Park – stayed there a couple of times when we've done Dalby. Couple of pubs in walking distance. Not really stayed anywhere else; now live close enough not to need to 🙂

There's a few camping options in and near Dalby

Spiers House (FC site in Cropton Forest)

High Rigg Farm – right in the middle of the forest:

Pexton Moor – just at the main entrance to Dalby:

For a B&B within spitting distance of the red route (you can see it from there) have a look here:

No idea if it's any good – but I ride past it nearly every ride 😉

Lots and lots of B&Bs about though – Pickering TIC will have a good list – 01751 473791

Everywhere seems to want £20+ for camping this summer
If you do a reasonable amount – membership of the Camping & Caravan club gets you a good discount [£36/pa IIRC]

The High Rigg Farm one as linked to above is great for free access to Dalby – its right next to the hut you'd normally pay at to get in, so you just bike in instead. Downside is there's no pubs nearby.

topangarider – Pexton moor is the one next to the toll booth

High Rigg is in the middle of the forest

Cheers folks. Mrs NBT doesn't drink so we can drive to a pub. Sorted 🙂

We stayed at Pexton Moor in the end. Great location, the sunset was fantastic, the view of the heavens was simply awesome given the lack of light pollution. Chap who runs the place is very friendly and helpful, had no problems with me leaving the car in the farm after we packed up, so we didn't have to pay the £7 entrance fee. Will definitely use that place again, it's also a decent location for riding on the NYM as well as Dalby
