According to god-like genius, and all-round national treasure Grayson Perry. And who the hell are we to argue with him?

Mountain biking has been a dusty thread running through my life. It has helped keep me sane and thin enough to fit into 15-year-old dresses.

As you’d expect, its a really interesting article by him in todays Guardian, about the joys of mountain biking. Well worth a read

his book is also very interesting. I got some very puzzled looks from my family when they asked what book I was reading and I said it was the autobiography of a mountain-biking transvestite potter

Not keen on the title of the topic binnertelli! because hes a person, artist and individual first. Not pidgeon-holed. I hope to be still mtb’ing at 55 too 😀

Nice to see proper cycling getting a bit of coverage. 😀
I’d like to see the comments 1974Cambridge made to get them all moderated.

Grayson Perry is a chuffing legend, I worked at the RA for a while and FWIW, although I’ve never worked with him, plenty of my colleagues have and have nothing but good things to say about him.

He’s an artist who can wheelie…what’s not to like?

I must admit his appearance confused me a little when I first saw him (long time ago) but then I listened to him talk – fantastic bloke, absolutely brilliant.

I don’t really ‘get’ the art, but I’m not much of an artist so I know a lot goes over my head.

“Downhill, you wouldn’t know he had a family.”

That’s a great quote. Good article too. Articulate and coherent.

I appreciated the two awards he made trophies for, ‘Most Average Rider’ and ‘Slowest Rider With Most Expensive Bike’

Trouble is I can’t aspire to be the former in my group as I’d never reach those dizzy heights, and can’t afford the latter (athough I could aim for the ‘Slowest Rider With Most Averagely Priced Bike’)

His Reith lectures on R4 last year were excellent.

Oh bugger, I was going to be the one to post this link.

He’s a genius and everything I ever read about him just puts him up several notches in my estimation.

Mrs Gti has an old pal who is a roadie and a tranny, so the leg-shaving thing must work well for him I guess.

Agreed on Grayson Perry though; he’s a star bloke and a fascinating artist.
