Nah, look at how much these 2-year old Dart 3s are advertised for, compared to the price of them new:

    Very good:

“This frame is very quick, I didn’t think it could make such a noticeable difference but it is smooth and fast” – BMC fan from Australia

“Its a fantastic bike” – Anonymous from Italy

I wouldn’t buy it purely because he’s copied and pasted the eBay advert.

Whats a stead? And how does an 80mm fork, that shows 95mm of stancion mean it could be a 100mm fork?

All it would take is for the originator of these listings of great BS – Bobbyflash – to bite and I think we could have another kaesae on our hands. (Borderline personality disorder notwithstanding)..

Im sure there must be a scammers website with a listing of suitably gullible forums and members.

I’d like to point out to the school yard clique ^ there. I’m a good friend of Stu and that’s his style. The Irony is you have taking it all to seriously when he is the only person I know who never takes himself seriously at all.

Life’s too damn short to be a hater.

Prose a bit purple, more like a yank furniture sales ad perhaps, but a good price.

If it ain’t “hot” or completely misdescribed, I can’t see the problem here

Elliott, tell your friend stu that his style is reminiscent of typical scammers and as such his ads will get avoided like a turd tree on here.

A drunk turd tree on a bus, shouting obscenities at pigeons. that’s how much he’ll be avoided.

elliott-20 perhaps you’d be happier if we just let everyone get ripped off then? There is a sense of community on here for some, so when someone completely new turns up and starts offering brand new frames for a third of the normal price, you’ll forgive us if we’re a little suspicious.

Personally I can’t see a problem with the BMC advert?

Looks like someone wrote it with a good dose of intentional humour, but still clearly stating accurate facts about the frame and reason for sale.

I doubt scammers can really be bothered to put that much effort into their dodgy efforts or know their product that well – they never seem to in the obvious scams I have seen anyway

Sure. TBH I thought he was kinda preaching to the converted but hey, but what’s the big deal? He took the time to write it to sell it to non-beard-growning-single-speeding-gnar-specialist sites and if you look hard enough for him on the web you’ll find him. And if he was on the scam, would he reveal himself so blatantly with a personal/company email address eh?

Not at all, but exactly as SodaJim points out

I’ve been hanging round these parts a while and as you mention bigyinn ‘SOME’ come on here for a community but there are others on here who like to go out of there way to flame like a schoolboy. And if anyone else saw their friend getting flamed I’m sure they’ll stand up for him too.

A few on here could use a little lot of common sense and solidarity before being rude that’s all.

I wonder what percentage of ‘members’ here on the forums, only buy/sell stuff, with zero contribution towards the other boards?

So much for the community spirit, eh…

He’s just asking a realistic price rather than chancing his arm like many sellers. Quite refreshing.

Tell him to at least get some pictures up though, the lazy sod.

Hands up I did miss that bit

I wonder what percentage of ‘members’ here on the forums, only buy/sell stuff, with zero contribution towards the other boards?

Which perhaps would be my only criticism of the add. I think if you hang around on a forum long enough it can get your back up when a newbie only joins to post once to flog something then disappears for ever.

I do appreciate not every one can spare the hours to be a full on regular face but it would be nice if now and then you can put something back and help out with the odd answer to a question or two.

I’d be willing to give stu the benefit of doubt on this occasion and hope he pops up to post again from time to time.

At the end of the day if it’s all legit the frame may turn out to be a nice buy for the right person. It would be a shame if it is what your after to snub it becuase you dont like newbie posters trying to sell stuff

Surely an active classifieds brings people to the site? It’s a complete non-issue if some people only use the site to buy and sell stuff.

The main point of my post (on his fork ad, not the frame), was precisely that he wasn’t doing this.

Which is also a fair point and a reasonable view from another perspective.

Regular contributors in the other areas of the forum would potentially miss out on a few bargains if this wasn’t the case

    Well hello everybody…

    …Now let me retort…

    Firstly:
DaveyBoyWonder – Steed: noun – a horse, especially a high-spirited one. You know, like something you ride – never referred to your bike as a Steed before? Granted, I spelt it slightly wrong (and I’m guessing that you’ve never spelt anything wrong, ever) but use your imagination dude – for a so called ‘Boy Wonder’ you ain’t very creative. I’ll warn you now – there’ll be some more big words coming up so try and stay with us and I’ll help you where I can.

z1ppy – you’re probably not gonna want to read all this sh*t either, ergo*, I don’t expect to have to read any more unintelligent, ill conceived comments from you (*DaveyBoyWonder – ergo: adverb meaning ‘therefore’).

wwaswas – cheers sweet cheeks. Not sure if you’re a ladee or a dude but a compliment is a compliment, no matter which closet it comes from! (DaveyBoyWonder – yes, I spelt ‘ladee’ wrong but it was on purpose, cos I wanted to)

OK, let’s deal with the forks first: I completely agree crispedwheel – those forks are priced way too high! I really should have done more research before bunging a price on there and appreciate that they will never sell at that price. And DaveyBoyWonder – these forks were originally posted on EBay, to an audience that are not as clearly beautifully technical as you lot and so I was merely giving as many facts as possible in an attempt to make my product more desirable – you know, like in sales the world over?

Let’s put these down to schoolboy errors and move on…cos we gotta discuss the looted-in-the-london-riots-dodgy-scam-just-gotta-sell-it-cos-I’m-smashed-up-on-smack-and-JUST-NEED-A-FIX-MAN BMC bike frame…

Pook – my ad will be avoided like a drunk turd tree on a bus, shouting obscenities at pigeons eh? Very eloquently* put…and interestingly wrong, as the frame was sold last night, for the asking price, by a very nice fella that had been on here and seen all your lovely comments and decided to talk to me anyway. (*DaveyBoyWonder – eloquent: adjective meaning having or exercising the power of fluent, forceful, and appropriate speech)

As to the frames legitimacy – I see no reason why I should justify that to such a bunch of naysayers* as yourselves and will keep the details between myself and the buyer, who had the decency and foresight to have an actual adult conversation directly with me about it to find out more info and make a better informed decision. (*DaveyBoyWonder – naysayer: noun meaning person who habitually expresses negative or pessimistic views)

no_eyed_deer – a listing of great BS you say? Which bits are you referring to – the FACTS about the make and model of the frame, the FACTS about what it was selling for in online bike shops, the FACTUAL testimonials from the CRC site, the FACTUAL info on the frame and technologies from the Wiggle site or the ACTUAL FACTS on the BMC brand from the ACTUAL BMC website?

njee20 – I’m sorry but I didn’t see any comments in the official Singletrack advert listing rules about having to rewrite a complete advert so as not to offend the delicate psyche* of the Singletrack community. I’ll be sure to spend an extra half an hour of my life re-penning any future adverts for you, making sure to ignore one of the great technical advances of our time, the computer and all it offers in helping with the production of the written word and its dissemination*. (*DaveyBoyWonder – there’s 2 big words in this sentence – how you holding up, you still with us? The first one, psyche, is a noun meaning the human soul, spirit, or mind. The second one, dissemination, is a also noun meaning airing, broadcasting, circulation, diffusion, dissipation, propagation, publication, publishing, spread)

bigyinn – I’ve only posted 2 adverts actually, as per the rules of the forum that I was respectfully following. Is this the behaviour of a scammer?

elliott-20 – Thanks for having my back brother, I appreciate it.

So, all in all, what a wonderful way to welcome new blood into a community – casting wild aspersions* about someone and a situation you know very little about and showing no desire to engage in any sort of adult communication to find out more – choosing instead to take pot shots from the safety of your anonymous computer screens. I was looking forward to being a part of it all, and I may choose to walk among you again, but I don’t particularly relish having to read a bunch of narrow-minded-up-their-own-ass fool’s wang on about the utter injustice of actually selling something on a public forum that offers the service of free classified adverts – OMG, the sheer horror of it! (*DaveyBoyWonder – we’re nearly done, you’re doing well. Aspersion: noun – a damaging or derogatory remark or criticism; slander)

To those that got it and argued my case – thank you very much and I look forward to maybe chatting to you more in the future.

To all the haters – so long, gay boys…

see, you had me on your side right up until then.

I never saw the OP’s post as being anythign other than ‘crikey this guys posted a big ad’.

Why anyone woudl associate their company name with a ‘dodgy’ frame is beyond me so it didn’t cross my mind that it was anything other than a legit ad posted in a, errm, quirky way.

I’m a heterosexual bloke, btw, and the *swoons* was a kind of faux ‘super hero reaction’ type thing not a physical response on my part.

Anyway, if you drop the homosexual insults and stick with it I’m sure you’ll get alonf fine 🙂

To all the haters – so long, gay boys…

wwaswas beat me to it. Lay off the causal homophobia eh?

FACTUAL testimonials from the CRC site

I didn’t look at the frame ad, but this doesn’t strengthen your argument. It’s a fact that testimonials exist, but the contents of them are just opinion – wholly subjective.

bobbyflash Try to look at it from our perspective.

Someone new turns up and starts selling a brand new frameset at a pretty low price. This has happened a few times in the recent past and people have lost their hard earned dosh paying for a bargain that didn’t exist. Perhaps we were being a bit harsh, but once bitten twice shy etc.

You attitude won’t win you any friends and making homophobic comments certainly wont endeer you to the mods.

Oh and your listing contains too much “fluff” for my liking. I’d recommend sticking to the basic facts about the frameset. Size, age, condition, reason for sale, intended use etc etc. Thus the potential buyers can make their own informed decisons on whether this is the frame for them or not. A couple of actual pictures of the item for sale would be useful, but try not to use a pic lifted from the internet, as I would be wondering whether the item actually existed or not.

    Back down everyone!

The ‘He’s new here – burn the outsider!’ attitude of many on this forum is becoming a problem that we are being forced to look into seriously.

More respect is needed along with a more welcoming attitude to new users.

Easy on the homophobic comments tho Bobby.
