Any one seen these on ebay?

    eBay: http://pages.ebay.com/link/?nav=item.view&id=161260399481&alt=web

They don’t look too badly made but would like to see some footage from one ideally. Anyone using these cameras?

yeah i’ve got one. the camera footage is pretty decent for what the camera costs…my only gripe is that the battery doesn’t last that long. i cant remember how much footage i’ve got off one full charge but i can check when i get home. i might also try and get some footage for you.

the other thing to be aware is that i’m not sure how readily available spares are…i’ve already broken the handlebar mount after i had a stack at llandegla…(the camera survived though) and i’m not sure if Go Pro mounting hardware can be bodged to fit

overall its not a bad camera…i got a £10 discount voucher via ebay so it only cost me £18 so i’m and for that price it represents good value for money

I took delivery of one (SJ4000) yesterday. I ordered it on the back of the Techmoan reviews and the footage I saw on there. It seems to be a rival for the older GoPros really rather than the newer ones (no wifi connectivity etc).

Build quality seems good but I haven’t had a chance to do any proper footage yet. I shot a quick video in the living room and uploaded it to my Macbook Pro which has a retina screen. The image quality looked excellent.

Unboxing it, it comes with plenty of mounts, including a bike mount. I ordered a chest mount too as this isn’t included in the box.

In all, including the chest mount, 2 spare batteries (it had one in the camera too – so 3 total) and a 32gb Sandisk micro SD, it came to £82 inc delivery and I didn’t get hit for duty. Delivery took 3 weeks.

    Here’s where I ordered from:
    Fox Offer

I’m off on hols but will post some footage when I get back. Have a look at Techmoan and search for SJ4000 on YouTube to get an idea of quality in the meantime….

EDIT: In lieu of the above post – Fox Offer do a full range of spares and the SJ4000 is compatible with Go Pro stuff.

@gonzy – sorry, I was referring to the SJ4000 (the model I have)should the OP choose to buy one and have a broken mount etc. The one in the original ebay link from the OP looks very different to what I have so I doubt the Fox Offer stuff would work with your camera.

The model I bought seems like an exact replica of a GoPro…

@big yim – I read that some factories are cloaning the SJ4000 now so be cautious what you buy. The factory has trademarked the name so clones are coming out as SJCAM.
It’s part of the reason why I ordered from Fox Offer to make sure I wasn’t getting a GoPro clone clone!

Yeah just saw on their site that people are doing copies of the camera. Will have to try and buy from a trusted seller

Might be better off with a secondhand GoPro?

I was just about to sell mine and the early HD ones go for well under £100 now. They’re very reliable too and get good footage.

(Cheeky plug – Drop me a line if you’re interested in mine of course)

The camera linked in the first post looks to be the same as the one sold by Aldi as the Maginon AC-500. My mother-in-law bought me one and it’s “OK” but the SJ4000 appears to be quite a better image quality wise. At the Aldi price of £45 versus about £55 for the SJ4000, I’d say it’s a no brainer to get the SJ4000. Having said that, at £29 it seems like a good buy if you’re not too fussy about image quality.

One tip, if you do get one I’d invest in one of these to convert the standard tripod mount it has to accepting any go pro kit. Then you have access to all the go pro ecosystem of mounts and if later you change to a SJ4000 or GoPro and can still use the mounts you have.

    Interesting.

Have been contemplating getting a Hero for a couple of years but put off by the negative reviews and general consensus that their support is sh1t.

    Re the SJ4000:

    1. Does it only shoot 30fps, ie doubling up on each frame?
    2. Some poor Amazon UK reviews in the last month or so – does this mean more dodgy ones are now in circulation?
    3. Best to buy from the US? Warranty could be an issue I suppose.
    4. Longevity? Cheap Chinese manuf that’s going to break within a year?

Techmoan’s vid looks pretty good. Purchase options here:

I got one the other week. Seems pretty decent for the price. Battery is poor though, so be sure to order a spare or two.

Here’s some flung together footage. Remember to switch to 1080p, but also be aware YouTube does compress the video slightly so it does look better on PC / TV.

@dknwhy – thats ok. but in actual fact some of the mounting hardware looks like it might fit and with the prices being relatively cheap it might make it worthwhile to buy the bits and try fitting them
