    REDNECK SPORTS DP5-125

I’m looking for a more than the 100mm I get out of my Satori seatpost on my ancient Five. Found this, looks interesting. Anyone got one?

I’ve not got one but the name’s enough to put me off.

I think you have to get it for the name alone, “Redneck Sport” 🙂

It’s really not that cheap though, is it?

I think it looks like a decent post for the money, at least the lever is better than the one I used to have on my cheappie. It mechanically simple, like the GD but for an extra 25 mm drop is it worth it? stick a QR on a double drop for the really steep stuff?

There’s not so much around in 27.2 though is there? I have bought dropper posts from that seller on ebay before and had an issue with one of them but the guy was amazingly helpful and even posted me replacement parts to sort the issue with no question, I would buy from him again.

Its as cheap as any of the Gravity-Dropper ripoffs. Its also the only longer 27.2 post on the market other than the Thomson, and is a lot cheaper than that.

but for an extra 25 mm drop is it worth it?

    Possibly.

Or, I buy a new frame that takes a Reverb….

Fair enough. Especially with feedback on how responsive the seller is. No deliverance charge either. 🙂

Don’t think I could fit 460mm in my frame though.

I saw this but if I was buying a mechanical dropper it would be GD.

Was reading about the new brand x dropper yesterday, got a decent write up. 27.2mm, 400mm long, £140. But internal routing only. Not sure how many bikes with a 27.2 post have internal routing.

With regards to internal routing, I just fitted a Ks 27.2 integral post to my hardtail (100mm drop I know) and I routed the cable through a bottle boss. It’s tight but a smidge of grease, no drilling needed and no flappy cable.

Can someone with more cash than me buy one and report back?

Cheers for the info on the Brand X, does look nice. But £55 more than the Redneck.
I’ve asked the ebay seller how much it weighs. That could be the deciding factor.

Jamesoz that’s a handy tip. Can you post a pic please.

    I’ve got a reply

“The average weight is 685 grammes”

    Thomson is 592g at £315
    Brand X is (claimed) 550g at £140.

My existing 100mm drop Satori Sorata post is about 600g

    hmmm….

    I just got a 27.2 KS e10. It’s heavy but well made, 100mm drop.
Unfortunately from the saddle rails to the min insert it’s only 280mm, so for me to short and going back!!

Brand-x Ascend = Lyne Contour post, no?

Brand-x Ascend = Lyne Contour post

Certainly looks similar. So the 27.2 is only 105mm drop then if that’s the case. I’m oot.

For dukeduvet, hope that works. Hate using the phone for this sort of thing.

bandito looks like the redneck or the thomson are your options

Jamesoz appreciate the photo and looks a really neat job.

Found a decent review of the Lyne dropper here

Before committing to buying a post test the routing.

Take a nice thin gear cable outer, I also found vacuum lines from a car worked really well but longevity might be iffy.

Strip the plastic off the last few inches of gear cable, this will allow easy entry in the boss and get the bend. A coat hanger with a hook may help to make sure the cable goes the right direction.

Push the outer through from the outside, some grease will help. Cut stripped part off.

Thread the inner cable through. It may be hard to get past the bend at the boss, if so pull the outer through a bit further and it should pull the inner through.

Check the cable runs smoothly. Order dropper.

The Lyne post looks to be made by TranzX with a different collar, these are only about £80 from Germany in 27.2. Only 100mm drop, though.

Tranzx post is only 80mm drop in 27.2 and 330mm length which is different to the Lyne post. They do look similar mind.

I did email Lynn about an external 27.2 but otherwise its a used KS Lev for me.

Such a faff trying to find a dropper that is reasonably priced, reliable and fits!

They do several variations that are only available OEM, I suspect the likes of Lyne and Brand X have bought them and are selling them with their own collars.

Thanks James for your helpful guide. I’ll have a pay over the weekend with a gear through the boss.

bandito hope you get sorted and let us know if you go for a redneck post. Be interesting to hear your thoughts on one.

Jamesoz I tried your routing through the bottle boss tip and it worked a treat thanks. Surprised more people have not thought of this. Looks exactly what Cotic have done on their new internal routing for the Soul and Bfe except a bigger hole.

    No problem Duke.

For anybody interested I have just put a Redneck 125 on my Singlespeed.

Initial impressions are good. There is no side to side slop, just a clunk as it locks in place. Quality seems good and it worked well on the trail today. It’s a bit clunky and has set positions but I’m not fussed if it’s reliable, time will tell. It seems I can destroy dropper posts with ease I’ll report back if I kill it.

The remote, whilst working well is on the long and pointy side and in the preferred position it is at risk of opening my knee if my chain slips. I may cut the lever down or swap it for an old xfusion lever. For now it’s rotated to the top of the bars pointed forward.
The cable stop is at the lever end which I prefer.

I have been looking myself at the redneck but for the money i think i will go for this:

Ks eTen at Stif for £125 with 2 year warranty

    (only 100mm drop)

I would have gone for a KS like on my Kona but they have a long minimum insertion so wouldn’t be long enough for my singlespeed.

I have the KSi7 lasted well (since 2010 at least i think) only 100mm tho

there is 15% off at Stif at the moment so I have just picked up an eTen and south poor remote for just over £130. Happy Christmas to me!
