I rode the Bewick Moor route from Derek Purdy’s Northumberland ride guide earlier today for the first time. What a gem of a little route, up in the moors of Northumberland, on a beautiful day, with mostly entertaining singletrack riding. I’ve put a short video together to showcase the route: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9XuQovBKNLQ

Last time i rode that at Xmas the wife went into labour. Good job i had signal to get home quick.

its great when very dry or very frozen other than that its a mare on the early moor bits. Did you go to the smugglers cave half way through?

You were lucky with the mobile signal, i’m with O2 and didn’t have much of a signal.

No, I missed the cave, where abouts on the route is it? There was certainly lots to see. Really enjoyed the ride.

Oooooh, I rode that last Summer. 8) Nice views of the Farne Islands too. Don’t remember a cave, just the ruins.

Got quite a fright when a low-flying jet was showing off. 😀

After the steep road climb out of Eglingham, after the gate at the top when you pull of left onto the moor singletrack – its halfway along this section before you get to the square patch of trees on the right.

Its called Cateran hole – http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cateran_Hole A fair bit on google about it – nowt special but quite interesting to break the ride up for 5 mins.

Not done that loop it self but ridden from Alnwick to Blairwearie a few times, nice little jaunt over the moors.
