I need a good length all round outdoor knife. Preferably not a folding knife but I don’t mind. There’s so many to choose from and no outstanding options.

Any suggestions?

people who use knives a lot for work as tools use these. they sell them in farmers supplies places.

I like my Opinel but be aware its a soft steel and does wear quite fast – in fact mine is almost so far worn now that I can only just get my finger nail in the lifting slot 🙂 It is 15 years old, but only been worked hard for 3 or 4 of those. The softness does mean you can sharpen it on a Mars Bar* if you need to in an emergency.

The lock is very secure on it giving it a feel of a one piece

*or stone 🙂

I’ve got an Opinel I’ve had for about 15 years… Cuts like a much thinner knife, only ever been sharpened on random rocks when it needs it, lovely. There’s better knives I’m sure but none so friendly.

Go to game fairs and see millions . Then buy a Mora by Frosts. 10 quid, plastic handle and sheath. Choice of colours. Mine has done everything from sharpening pencils to gutting deer. Got all sorts of fancy ones but its that or the Opinels that get the most use.

Best all round outdoor knife is a matter of opinion.

Probably the best value is a Mora Clipper (carbon steel for best edge, stainless for longer edge holding and less blade care)

mora’s are really nice too.

Spyderco Aqua Salt. I’ve used and destroyed a lot of knives, this one best I’ve had. Best of all, doesn’t rust in salt water.
