Well, that was emotional.
First time racing on the singlespeed and got the gearing slightly wrong but hey ho.
Nice to meet a few other SSers: Tazzy, Charlie.
Lovely day for it.
Who else was there?

Riding along the beach solo on the third lap was far from ideal. Thoroughly enjoyable overall.
The speed of the lead pack was rather impressive as the passed me at the end of the second beach leg.
Will hopefully be back next year.

Felt for everyone single speeding today. Had a 25mph maximum on the beach first lap, the boys at the front must have got upto 30 mph :O great event, probably one of the best I've done ๐Ÿ™‚

It was brill. No headwind, so wrong gear, a lot of spinning followed. And no pool of almost certain death. Great day...

What an amazing race and a wonderful event with loads of people and good demos available.

Had a frustrating time in the race really; having sat comfortably at the front for the entire beach I got swallowed up by about 30 riders as everyone took me by surprise and attacked for the tarmac exit. I spent the rest of lap 1 overtaking everyone and was making ground only to get lost on the start of lap 2 as some local idiot had moved an arrow. Lost a couple of mins, but to be fair the biggest loss was getting off the beach. Lots learnt for next year in terms of positioning and expecting the fast exit. We were over 30mph down the beach at times, but it did go in waves of twiddling at 20-25 odd then going nuts and spinning out in the 34/11.

I think I ended up about 10th.

Really enjoyed myself. The bottleneck at the first section of singletrack was a bit annoying but it was juts about having fun for me.
SS El Mariachi, only my fourth ride on this bike and the 20t rear cog was too spinny on the beach. Topped out at 16mph on the flats

Great weather, great event - thanks Matt and team. Was running 40:16 on my ss. Overall fine except a bit spinny on the flat and a bit meaty for some of those short climbs - had to dismount about 3 times per lap which made for lots of chasing in order to avoid a lonely ride along the beach!

Great event. Thanks to Matt and the team.

36:17 was a bit spinny on the beach but about right on the singletrack sections.

The group I was with also got caught out at the end of lap with a missing marker, but so did a few people so these things all balance out.

I'd like to see a video of the start. It seemed carnage (in a funny wacky races way) from within the pack.

If the weather can be guaranteed I'll definitely be back next year

Very nice atmosphere and some great chaingangs on the beach. Not a clue how I did but the beach gave me a new 5minute power figure. Also got lost on second lap.

Brilliant ride today. Spinning like mad on the beach (33-19), felt more at home once off the beach. Some cracking bits of singletrack. Definitely back next year.

Shedbrewed, do you have a ginger beard, I was the hopelessly under geared oddball S/S fat bike.
Happy with 275th as the field had disappeared into the distance.

Yea, I based 32 X 19 on the Fatbike after last year's headwind, swamps and lakes. Twas a tad spinny. Then after the first beach just stood around waiting and admiring Tazzy's customising..........

109th overall and 8th in grand vets. Some practice needed on fast starting to avoid first lap bottlenecks.

Yarp. Guilty as charged. Apologies if I was extra sweary near you on the last lap.
34/18 was spin city. Ah well it was still good fun. That fist lap there was a small barricade of ss'ers spinning along the beach as the line of bikes disappeared off into the distance.

I had a shocking race due to a complete lack of fitness which is my own fault. But to be honest I didn't really enjoy it that much. Its a long way from scotland to travel to hammer up the beach then push my bike in a long cue of people as soon as i got to the single track. Then spend the second lap dodging out of ghe way of all thd fast riders! Third lap would have been fun if i wasn't so broken!

As a weekend and event it was good fun but zero opportunity to do my best which admittedly isnt very good!

Morning all! Just been looking for info on SS ratios for BoTB and found this thread.

Entered fat SS. Seems if there was ever a race ideally suited to SS, it's not this one!

Thought originally I might nick the wonkey 35/17 bits off the 26er, but maybe that's too low. Got a 38 on the crosser, there's probably a 16S rear in the parts bucket, too.

Guess it will depend on the wind on the day too. Almost like a whole cassette might be handy!
