Awesome week with Bike Verbier

Just got back from a week with Lucy, Phil and co. Only ever heard rave reviews of them and I know there are a lot of STWers who go there, but thought it would be doing them a disservice not to post a review for those that dont know them.
Gorgeous well equipped chalet a couple of miles from Verbier which we shared with a few other small groups through the week. All the staff are great company, and the food it terrific and I doubt anyone comes home having lost weight. After 10+ years they are still scoping out trails and they can cater for any skill level, interest, and weather change by riding in different valleys etc. Endless alpine singletrack, with the benefit of uplifts to get you further and riding longer (biggest day being 1000m vertical climbing, but 2500m vertical descending).
What impressed me most is how enthusiastic Phil and Lucy are and how much they enjoy and care about what they do. Lucy still seems to love being out on a bike (Phil didnt ride with us due to injury), and crucially obviously gets as much buzz from seeing her guests enjoy themselves as she does from riding herself. She was great at encouraging Munqe Chick and one of our rustier riding buddies.
There’s nothing quite as humbling as hammering through some rocky singletrack as fast as you can, thinking youre actually pretty handy, and then seeing Lucy in front of you, riding it quicker whilst looking backwards to make sure youre okay 😯 8)
Nothing is too much trouble and they seem to take anything that goes wrong anywhere personally. Munqe Chick had a puncture, and as I had hurriedly swapped forks and wheels before the trip had forgotten to fit the circlips that hold the 20mm adaptors in place. Result, MC finishes the ride missing one adaptor, which in fact Ady spotted. Completely down to me and MC. So whilst we’re chilling out in the chalet with a beer, Phil drives Lucy to the top of the trail and she rides down it to look for and find our adaptor 😳 . Sums up the level of service they give. During a chat early in the holiday Lucy said “we’ve been really lucky with reviews and recommendations”. Luck doesnt come into it, As a group they work bloody hard at what they do and excel at it.
We had a fantastic time and are planning a return trip. It’s not cheap but it is good value and its no wonder they get so much return business.

it appears there was some Top Gear style bike v car action, with Lucy racing phil to the bottom (despite having to stop and rummage through the undergrowth so hardly fair).
geetee1972Free MemberLOL they pretty much did the same thing when we were there on a route called Brazilian; if you did this route, you basically get to it by driving up a road from a village in the Scion valley. The track is double width, loose, dusty, rocky and has decent catch berms on the switch backs. You’re riding in the canopy at relatively low altitude.
Sound familiar?
This was the highlight for us last year:
Munqe-chickFree MemberMRs CTM, the holiday was awesome! As CTM said everything about it was brilliant, I couldn’t believe it when Lucy went to find my bike part on the trail, she didnt’ tell me, just arrived at dinner time “Ta da”, it certainly wasn’t her fault. Riding with her was brilliant too, encouraging and developing riders, dropping her speed and making me follow her into steep drops that I probably wouldn’t have ridden otherwise. It really was a superb holiday and I certainly felt quite sad when we left on Saturday morning. They are fantastic people, the location is amazing with views to die for, Gill the chef makes delicious food, Ady & Sam are cracking guides. I could continue to rave but I think you get the point.
Oh and it is NOTHING like Morzine so do not compare it to the PdS region is it just so much more, epic day “proper” MTB rides…..
Munqe-chickFree MemberOh yes feel free to add your pics when you had an awesome time.
