[Closed] Apps for others to track my ride

Morning

My wife worries when I'm off for a ride on my tod. I use the Road ID app at present which is great but, it rarely works. Find that the ride is tracked but only updates every hour or once i've finished.

Anything better or more reliable? I'll continue to use the Road ID as a like the feature of pushing my ICE info to front screen should I be found unconscious.

Is it a case of just poor reception so nothing will work better?

Buddy beacon in viewranger here. Pretty reliable and 1 minute live updates. I use it to track the wife when she is flying so I can be where she lands to pick her up. It does need a signal to work, though.

Have a look at the IceDot trackers too - will force a text to a list of numbers if they sense a big impact.

I use the phone tracker app. She tracked me from Kingston to Brighton last weekend and called me at one point to ask why I was sitting in a car park on the north downs for ages (was waiting for someone to fix a puncture).

It does show her where I've been though, so she can see if I have been to the bike shop.

There's a native Motorola tracking app just appeared on my moto g called Alert...texts a location at preset intervals...great for letting the Mrs know when to put the tea on. Google plus location tracker does something similar but without the SMS thing though.

Can any of these be left permanently on without draining the battery?
The GPS seems to use a lot of power on my HTC Wildfire, so something that sleeps in the background and only wakes up when it gets a location request would be best.

Find my friend? She wouldn't be able to track your ride (i'm not sure she's bothered about that anyway) but she'd be able to use gps to locate you.

We use glympse, tracks well if you have 3g coverage. Been using it for a few weeks now, doesn't use too much data (been tracking 4 1hrs rides a weeek).
The little likes tracking when i'll get home and meeting me at the end of the drive. Not perfect but free.

MTQG - I use Where's my droid. ( you dont say whether you're Apple or ANdroid)

Installed on Mrs Stoner and my phones. You can log in (using your google id) and use "find my phone" to send it a location report request.

Just started using insta mapper on my android and it seems very good. Minimal battery drain and data useage, and you can set the update interval to fine tune this.

I've installed the FollowMee app and it seems to be doing what I want, although I haven't moved yet since I installed it.
I'm not sure what happens when I go out of phone signal range. I guess it just shows last known position. I'll give it a go tomorrow.

I used Locatoweb recently when I entered an event so the wife and kids could see me go past without standing there all day. It does live updates and can be viewed on a webpage.

It was pretty reliable when I used it but obviously needs a signal and does impact battery life a bit.

App was about 60p if I remember correctly.
